I seem to be having an ongoing battle with cardinals eating my
broccoli. They wait for a small floret to form and then munch it.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good way to keep these pests
out? Please, only non-lethal remedies!

fruits, it also keeps the deer from getting at it too. Gardening in the
country is so much fun! First I have to make and plant everything in
gopher baskets, then fence in anything that I don't want the deer to eat
and then cover any fruit with bird net! It's a battle zone here!

Have you tried Sunflower seeds. Seems to me the poor things are hungry
and would gladly eat something else in another part of the garden. I
would gladly feed cardinals broccoli but the neighbourhood cat ate them.
People BELL your cats and save the birds Thanks

This may be a silly question, but where do you get this birdnet? I have
been searching high and low, but nobody seems to have the slightest idea
what is it and where to find it. Perhaps you could share your sources
with the rest of us.

Better yet, keep 'em inside. I had a cat I adored who was an indoor fellow
until he was six years old. By then my older son was old enough to run in
and out the back door. Well it wasn't long until the cat was going with
him and I got tired of the battle, so I gave in.

It didn't happen for another six years, but exactly a year ago, when the
cat was 12, I had to have him put to sleep due to Feline AIDs he had
contracted from another cat. There are vaccines for Feline Leukemia, but
feline AIDs is fatal.

Save yourself the heartbreak and keep 'em inside!
