Please be careful when dealing with sureguard. We purchased a S10
energiser and it does not do what it is claimed to do on the Sure
gaurd website. The battery went flat on the first cloudy day. We
sent it back within a few weeks to be checked out and they said that
they fixed an intermittant problem. We got the energise back and put
it on the fence. Within two days a fox got into the chicken enclosure
and took one of our chickens (luckly only one!). When I spoke to
sureguard, they said that it was probably the battery but they would
not replace it. I would not recommend this sureguard energiser, and
the customer support was very poor.

My experiences with another make solar (battery powered) electric fence.
Takes at least one day in full sun to fully powerup. One full day of heavy
cloudiness results in weak spark, if you will. Have to keep the hot wire
clear of all foliage at all times. Disconnecting both sides of hot wire
from the power source greatly decreases the charging time. A significant
grounding device is needed to be effective, like a copper grounding rod.
The charger should have a grounding connection as well.
