Is it possible to grow fairly tall (15-20ft) bamboo in containers? I've
been plotting some way to creatively cover up the painful view of my
neighbor's eysore of a backyard which contains surplus building
materials and a hideous playhouse on stilts that is as tall as my little
house and a few feet from my fence. Unfortunately my cement driveway
area goes right up to the fence so I can't actually plant anything in
the ground (unless I got a jackhammer) so I'm hoping I can plant
something tall in a few containers to obliterate the "view". Amusingly,
I've noticed the neighbors across the alley have put up several
trellises (trelli?) so they don't have to look at the junkyard either.

Actually it is done. You can grow bamboos in containers BUT the pot will
constrict the height. Tall bamboos will only grow six or eight feet high
in a container. In fact Bamboos do well in a bright room ( not a dark
living room) in pots and do make oh so lovely houseplants.

In article <3395FC...@farandfew.com>, J...@farandfew.com says...
Yes, it is. to get 15 feet or so I would expect that you would need a
container about 2-3 feet in diameter. I've grown a seven foot Ph. nigra in a
twelve inch pot.
