What's the differencein daffodils and narrcissus. When I was growing up my Dad
had lots of paperwhite(I think) narcissus growing but never any yellow
daffodills. In the bulbs I don't se anything like what we had. They were small
white flowers with yellow centers. Is salame a narcissus? what can I grow in
south central Texas?

Daffodil is the common name for a variety of bulbs in the genus Narcissus, most
commonly Narcissus pseudonarcissus, the large trumpet yellow
daffodils.(Translation - all daffodils are narcissus) There are hundreds of
different varieties including many hybrids, of which Salome is one. Narcissus are
hardy in nearly all parts of the continental US and Canada, but require a period
of winter chill to do well - you may need to provide a chilling period if your
climate is not suitable. The Daffodil Mart (now owned by White Flower Farms) has
an excellent selection. They can be found online at www.800AllBulb.com.

Narcissus is the genus of bulbs that includes daffodils. Often,
"daffodil" is used as the common name for all species in this genus.

The flowers are generally characterized by a cup (or trumpet) and
saucer. Many individuals limit the term "daffodil" to those narcissus
where the trumpet is cylendrical and is longer than the saucer is wide.
The leading example is the 'King Alfred' daffodil. Not all are yellow,
even though "daffodil" is the name of a shade of yellow. I have 'Mt.
Hood', which is a white daffodil.
