Someone once told me about putting 7-UP in the water for a live Christmas tree.
I don't recall though how much you need to put in.

If anyone knows, please forward to me.

Thanks,
Paul

From the pages of Southern Living magazine: Christmas tree--Buy your
tree early, while it's still fresh. When you bring it home, cut 1 to 2
inches off the end of the
trunk to open clogged water channels. Mix your own tree preservative by
adding 1 cup of Sprite per gallon of water. A large
tree will absorb as much as a quart of liquid daily, so replenish the
mixture in the tree stand frequently.

I have had success using a solution of a "splash" of bleach (teaspoon or
slightly less) and a tablespoon of corn syrup dissolved in warm water -
bring solution to 4 cups. Works for me.

The use of carbonated soft drinks is an old wives tale (sorry, I'm not
so politically correct) when it comes to preserving freshly cut
Christmas trees.

If you want to keep your tree fresh make a quarter inch cut in the
bottom and stand the tree in a gallon of water. Never let the water
dry out. If it does the tree will form a plug and will no longer draw
water up.

Do not use bleach or carbonated soft drinks as studies show these can
actually increase the trees need for water. Try to keep tree away
from heat sources and cover it during transprt to protect it from
drying winds.

Hang the tree upside down and it won't need to be watered. My brothers
started a family tradition one year by hanging the tree from a light
socket (took out the light fixture and hung the tree from the rafter
beams) and we found that this tree did not need to be watered. We also
had a "normal" tree in the living room, upside down one was in the family
room. The first year or two we tried to rig up a watering system but soon
discovered it didn't need it.
