I just did this yesterday! I always plant closely to insure
germination of at least one seed. Zinnias are rather good at that, but
I anally overseed anyway! Anyhoo, I take a clean scissor, (wiped with
alcohol and allowed to dry) and snip out the other seedlings, leaving
only one. Trying to dismantle their tiny roots is futile, and it is
way too late to transplant the others without also killing the one you
will leave in place. Trust me, if you leave one seedling there, you
will have far more flowers than if you leave more.
