rec.gardens hello,

Now that I think I finally have a secure connection to this news group I
will properly introduce myself. I tried this once before and it didn't work
right--posted from where I work a few year back. Not enough time to keep up
and post from work. What I don't like about my home view of the messages is
each message is not numbered like it is at my work computer. Any
suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Ok rec.gardens, my introduction as promised. I am a non commercial flower
gardener in South Burlington--zone 4--Vermont, USA. I am a 46 year old
teenager who also has a 5 month old web site of my garden. It is the place
where the art and gardening world meet and become one. I invite you to
visit my world before you see my name too often in the rec.gardens world and
wonder; who is that guy? My URL is: http://www.impressionistgarden.com

Happy gardening,
Jerry Gryniewicz

How pretty! Do you have a list of the flowers you have growing? Where are
you located, zone-wise? I'm in the process of digging up my front yard and
turning it into something like a cottage garden perennial bed, and I'm
interested in getting some different kinds of butterfly attracters.
Thanks --

Thank you Zhan, I wasnt sure I had posted correctly yesterday. It will
take me awhile to get used to this--But hey...I remembered this time to
write to the bottom of the message in answering a post. It is a start.
Thanks again for your kind words,

Does he have a garden web site? I would love to visit!

Hi Tom, I have only seen your name off and on now for some three years now.
I have even stopped at times to read a post you responded to not because I
was interested in the subject matter but was interested in reading your view
on the topic. It seams unfair that I know a lot more about some rec.garden
members than you all know about me. Well I will try to help you know some
more of my background before my name appears in too many posts.

A recent interview and garden web site review was published in the
Netherlands based "Your Garden" It is listed in the articles section and
called "Impressionist Garden". http://www.yourgarden.com

Madgardener, if you read this thank you for the wonderful e-mail and its
kind words you sent to my home around 3-4 months ago. Sorry it has taken me
so long to get truly hooked up to rec.gardens.

Ok Tom it took three years but the pleasure is mine to say hello to you!

Lorie, I thank you for the complement ! So you are digging up your front
yard and turning it into a cottage garden. Good for you, one less piece of
grass to mow! Yes I do have a list of flowers that I have growing. I am
located in zone 4, South Burlington, Vermont , USA

Also thank you for posting your URL. It was a nice visit for me. Thanks,
happy gardening. Jerry Gryniewicz http://www.impressionistgarden.com

Could you share your list with me? Would I be safe in assuming that if
something grows in colder zone 4 that it might do okay in zone 5? And
thanks for visiting Happy Hound Hollow! <grin>

Lori,

Yes I will share a list of what grows in my garden with you and the news
group. However, please be patient as it will take some time to put
together. There are a lot of different types and kinds of flowers growing in
my Burlington,Vermont, zone 4, flower garden. There are Spring blooming
flowers of which Daffodils I have at least 10 different types and Tulips
another 12 for example. Then there are perennials that have been added on
now for eight seasons. This year alone, I started and planted some 20
different annuals of which for example cosmos, I grew 8 different types. I
have at least 12 different types of Sun flower.

As far as I know all plants that grow in zone 4 will grow in zone 5.
However, all perennials that are labeled as zone 5 will not come back each
year when planted in zone 4.

Happy gardening, http://www.impressionistgarden.com

Okay then I'll narrow it down for you. I'm mainly interested in perennials,
particularly those that attract butterflies. And I don't need all the
particulars like Latin names and all the different varieties, etc -- simply
"sunflower" or "poppy" would be fine for me. <grin> Thanks much!

"Some gardeners can feel intimidated when confronted with the Latin
names of plants. However, this is a case when a little knowledge is
not a dangerous thing but extremely beneficial because the Latin names
will often be descriptive of not only the colour but also the place of
origin, the style of growth and the preferred growing conditions."

Lorie, thanks for letting me off the hook so easy. It would have taken me
many hours to list all my plants that grow in my garden. I will put
together the list particularly liked by butterflies. A prior commitment
will not let me accomplish this before let's say mid week coming up. I
could through a few names your way now but I feel the quality of your
question and request deserves a quality answer. I promise to keep the names
simple when I can. However, where there could be confusion, I may also
list the Latin name. Happy Gardening, Jerry G.

Tom, you have an excellent point. The Latin names of plants--even though
they are a pain for me to to pronounce--prevent misinformation.

I will list the names so that they are easily recognizable in English and
then can be pinpointed exactly by their Latin name. Hope that workes for
you Lori as Tom has made a good point. Happy gardening, Jerry G.

It was real treat viewing the flowers on this web site. It gave me a much needed perspective on planting of drifts. Thanks, Randy
PS If you have not visited this web site you are in for a rare treat.

Perfect! Thanks so much! Looking forward to it, but not in any big hurry.
I've got a pretty full plate myself right now, busy digging the grass out of
the front yard and moving a few things from the back to the front. Leaving
plenty of room though, because I'm sure I'll find some things on your list
that I can't live without. <grin>
