When to prune potentilla?

We are training potentillas to make a low wide cover for the
gap between the ground and our deck. We pruned this
spring and there are hardly any flowers. When is the best
time to prune.

The ideal time is after flowering, in the late fall or early winter, when
the plant is in dormancy.
