I have several bouganvilla. Some are fin, but two of them look practically dead
apart from a few leaves here and there. The branches are not brittle so I don't
think the problem is dead branches. I had them cut back and got a few more
leaves. We're in zone 9.
Any hints as to what's wrong?

These plants do go ingto dormancy every winter. So its possible that its
just hibernating till spring. They don't need allot of water during this
time either so don't over water durning the winter months.

Bougainvilla is very frost sensitive, even cold sensitive. I suspect you lost a
lot of leaves this way, don't worry, it will come back.

Could be they got a bit of frost bite. Wait until they start to get new growth,
then you will know if the branches are really dead or not.

I wish I had a frost free site to grow them. I just love the Royal Kings I saw
in Hawaii. I may take something out, just to grow that variety. :-)
