However now they have tapered off in the # of buds/blooms that we've been
seeing.
Will they re-bloom again this year? Can we do
something(pruning?,fertilizer?-with what?)to encourage new bloomage?
Also the glads we planted are just begining to bloom, they were getting
top heavy so I gave them some support with green floral tape.
Do they bloom only once per season? Do I cut them to encourage
re-blooming?
I know this may seem like stupid ques. to you all but we're new at this.
Thanks,
Frank
I live in Houston, Texas. I'm not sure what zone that is.
Please post replies, I'm having trouble receiving mail lately.

I usually plant Glads in two beds of three rows each the first planting of
3 rows in the back, two weeks ahead of the second set of three rows. This
extends the brief but spectacular single bloom per year that they give. I
stake the 4 corners of the bed and run support string around and between
the rows as they become quite top heavy when in bloom. In the North East
here I have to lift them every winter.

As I said, only one bloom per year

In Indiana, we let our glads bloom (only once in the summer) and dig up
the bulbs in the late fall. We tear the corms off the bulb and stick the
bulbs in a brown paper sack and stick them n the fruit crisper in the
fridge. In the spring we plant all our glads in the garden. You'll be
surprised at all the little glad bulbs you get.

I can't help you with the gardenias, I've never grown them. But I'm a
serious fan of gladiolas. They bloom just once a season. And yes, you
are correct to support their top-heavy blooms. I use bamboo poles for
this. Here in Canada the bulbs are not winter hardy and we have to dig
them up and bring them inside for the winter, I don't know about
Houston. Good luck!
