I was wondering if anybody with a few moments can look at the specials I
found here and tell me if the price and plants look right to them. I am not
sure what I am supposed to be paying for certain plants and my husband
thought it might be a good idea to get an opinion here about them and maybe
the company? Thanks a bunch Denise

That's a lot of plants in each selection - for those prices, you are probably
going to get pretty small plants, no more than 4" pots at the most, likely
smaller. They will fill up the areas they have described, but it's not going to
happen overnight - allow three years for the plants to mature and provide full
coverage. Bluestone has a good reputation - I've not ordered from them
personally, but they consistantly get good reports here. I'd have to question
what creeping thyme is doing in a shade garden collection, though. Doesn't seem
like a very suitable choice.

I have purchased from Bluestone Perennials for a few years, both by mail
order and at their facility in Madison, Ohio. The plants that they sell are
of high quality, but they are small. As I recall, they have two production
cycles a year. They start their seeds and sell off most of the plants in
the spring. Then they have a huge clearance sale at their greenhouses in
the early summer and start all over again for the fall.

The plants are very well packages and arrive in good condition. If you do
have a problem, they will go the extra mile to make it right. When you
purchase plants from them, you have to expect that they are unlikely to
bloom the first year. Most perennials don't boom the first years. They
will fill out very nicely, and bloom the next year. I bought a number of
plants from them at $18/flat last summer. Every plant thrived and some have
overgrown thier planting area! I am expecting lots of blooms this year.

High quality plants but very small, grown from seed. They will need to
be 'hardened off' before planting into your garden. Very good customer
service department.

This is a family run operation. The people there really know what they are
doing. For what its worth, Bluestone Perennials has been featured on Martha
Stewart Living.

I've ordered from them many times and have always been satisfied. True,
their plants are a bit smaller than Wayside or White Flower Farm, but you
get three plants for eight to ten bucks instead of just one. (Who plants
just one of something anyway?) The plants are always healthy and the
packaging is excellent. Be sure to get some of their Galium "Victor Jones".
It's like a large Baby's Breath that blooms all summer. This is one of my
favorites in the garden, and have never seen it anywhere else other than
here.

I've stopped in at Bluestone in the late summer/early fall. Got some pretty
good deals. The quality of the nursery itself was impressive. Can't
remember the plants now - it's been a couple of years...
I'd order from them, if I wasn't able to drive there in a little more than
an hour.

I have done business with Bluestone for quite a few years now and they
are great. They have good tried and true perennials, if you lose
something a year later they replace it for free or with something else
of equal value. My kolquitzia's I got last year were small so I potted
them up to give them time to grow more roots before planting, I planted
them and they died on me and Bluestone just replaced them with three
bushes of different types, (I had gotten buy two get one free, adn for
bushes that's not bad, perennials that's GREAT!) hope this helps, I am
satisfied with them. madgardener in zone 6b in Eastern Tennessee

Hello,
I checked out the website and my only concern was that they do not mention the
size of the pots that these plants are in. Check that out before you buy.

They have the exact size of the pots listed in the FAQ which can be seen at:
