Can anyone tell me what the best landscape design software is? I've heard
that 3D Landscape is good but I don't know who makes it.

Thanks.

Sierra make a fairly decent program, I have it now and for the money it
seems to be worth the try.

Garden architect by Swift jewel is a very good program. It has a feature
where you can watch your garden grow. It also estimates costs of the
projects and quantities of plants and material needed. It is about $20
-$30.

Does it (or do any of the other landscape design software) allow you to
use a scanned image of your own house as the backdrop? Designs I've seen
in magazines often look beautiful, but don't always work with one's actual
situation.

Would also be interested in comments/opinions on this sort of software in
general. Thanks!

Yes, I have software which not only allows this, but 'requires' it
from what I can tell. It is "planix Photo Landscape" by Softdesk. I
bought it at Egghead a while ago. Trouble is, I've never used it. I
don't have a scanner & intend to get pictures put on disk (by Seattle
Filmworks). But I haven't gotten around to sending in the film yet
(story of my life!). If you can't find the software, let me know &
I'll see if I can give you more info.

Elaine,
There's a shareware version of a program called Landscape Explorer that
uses your scanned image. It's at
http://www6.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=0004BU
I haven't used it (I'm MacIntosh based --which is why I wanted input on
these freeware/shareware programs--most are Windows apps).
Anyone else tried anything on the list?
