I would like to add some large rocks to my garden. My choices are to
pay to have real boulders delivered, buy fake ones or to build my own.
Does anybody have any information or the steps to build, paint and
seal artificial rocks?

There is a comprehensive section on how to build artificial rocks using
fiberglass cloth and cement fondue slurry in Peter Adams' latest book titled
'Bonsai Landscapes'. Signed editions are available through my website.

The techniques will work regardless of the size you wish to construct,
although the armature will have to increase as does the size. It's really
great fun, I've built several!

Just my opinion, but I think big rocks have to be carefully integrated into
the landscape. Time and time again I've seen people with a couple of
boulders in a flower bed - and it looks like they just put a couple boulders
in the flower bed. I'd save the time and money if I didn't have some design
expertise on using these things - and I can't imagine an amateur doing fake
rocks that are going to look decent. (Reminds me of those fake rocks they
sell to hide your house key in - never seen real rocks that look like that.)

What? Real rocks aren't made of plastic and don't have that little
secret trap door in the bottom?
