I live in Central Indiana. In my yard I have clumps of a thicker, taller
grass. It has narrow, long blades and a thick stalk close to the ground.
it grows faster and taller than my soft, thin pretty grass. Someone told me
it was crabgrass, but a neighbor said it was just a thick blade grass, or
broad leaf. I can't identify it. I think the term "crabgrass" gets thrown
around loosely. Does anyone have an idea what it could be and how I would
get rid of it to make my lawn consistant as far as texture of grass.

Sounds like nutsedge. Does it have a yellowish cast to it and stiff,
triangular leaves? If so, you are doomed.
