My apologies if this has been covered already....
....but if anyone here has experience using the Mosquito Magnet, I would
certainly appreciate hearing your comments about the (very
expensive )device.
Thank you !

A thread was here a month or so back--most interesting for a dissatisfied
user who has put up a web site detailing problems he had experienced. I
don't have it but you could search Deja/Google and spot it I'm sure.
The problem seems to be its price and the fact that mosquitoes respond to
more than just CO_2 signals. Wind direction was also crucial and the unit
could not easily be moved without dismantling it to some degree. Finally, a
person without even one bad thing to say about it claimed it had already
caught about 100 mosquitos. Heck, around here, that would not even clear the
smallest area on a bad mosquito day.
Mosquitoes can come from a mile away so removing them at a point is like
taking a teaspoon to make a hole in the ocean.
The best thing is to reduce breeding areas--plugged gutters, old
tires....any standing water. It must be a neighborhood effort.

Ok, thanks, I'll find it.

Yes ! I'm reluctant to spend $700 + for this thing.

Those were a couple of my concerns.....

Here at my property in the Ohio Valley, I get swarmed by dozens of mosquitos
as soon as I go outside. It's really unbelieveable. I AM the Human Mosquito
Magnet. :-)
The advertisements claim to kill "hundreds" a day....

Agreed. I do my part, but unless the whole neighborhood participates, it's
useless. ( Especially in this extremely wet summer we're having. )
Thanks for your response !
Garlic. Seems to work for me.
Placement is very important, but pretty easy, check the which way the
prevailing winds blow for that season (weather.com), and place it upwind of
the breeding ground, so that the wind will carry the scent across the
breeding ground.

Interesting. Your particular experience is what the manufacturer "claims"
will happen. The mosquito population will collapse within a short time
period.
I'm glad that you had such success, but I remain skeptical, much like your
reserving judgment. That is probably wise.
I'm hoping that the price of this device drops dramatically, and I will try
one. I can't go outside anymore, because the mosquito's here are frankly
unbelievable this year, worse than the usual terrible conditions.
( Yes, I have taken all the normal precautions in my Mosquito War, and even
have 5 bug zappers, including the biggest of the big. I'm aware that they
are vitally useless against mosquito's, but it's somewhat satisfying to hear
electrical "zaps" :-)
Hopefully others will relate their experience with this machine, or what
methods they have used to combat these d**m bugs.
By the way Dr. Rev Chuck, just exactly what is it you do with the Garlic ?
Eat it, wear it, arrange a necklace, frolic around the yard spreading it
around, have barbecue's for the mosquito's serving them garlic, plant garlic
trees, string it around fancy garden lights, or what ? :-) :-)
I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore.
Sincere regards,

I was at the Frontage outlet store recently and I noticed that they had
these units there at a pretty good discount. I don't know if that means
people aren't buying them or if they were returned.
Well, I'm glad I had the patience to wait on them (DH wanted to go out and
get one after one month of waiting) so I still have the option to return it
this spring if it doesn't work. Trying to kill things in federally protected
wetlands (without harming the other critters) is tough....it sounded so
good.
On a good note, it ran out of gas about 3 days ago and yesterday I got my
first mosquito bite, so it must be doing something.

I don't suppose that is anywhere near Cincinnati Ohio is it ?

UH-OH, thanks for the head's up. I would think they are returned ones as I
had to wait over two months due to the backorder--the operator told me they
had over 2000 on backorder when I ordered mine; why would they discount
something that's selling so well and move it to the outlet store?

"Maybe" good to hear. Keep me/us posted on your research with this device.
I'm sincerely interested, at least until I invent something of my own.
I'm thinking nuclear............
Oh great! Now we'll have mosquitoes with a six foot wingspan that can
drain a cow of blood in two minutes.
"Ed Clarke" <cla...@news.cilia.org> wrote in message

...... you know, if you think about it, six foot wing span 'squiters
wouldn't be all bad. At least you could see them to shoot 'em down, using
impressive ordnance probably. ( I'm thinking .50 cal with tracers. Be very
impressive at night ! )
Now you never find out your "hit" until it's too late.
:-)
I don't have the funds to buy up all the gadgets to try them, but I did see
an article that said a lady got good results with citronella candles, Off
candles, but didn't get good results with the mechanical contraptions.
However, she did state she picked a bad day to test them out since the
mosquitoes were not swarming like they should have been even where before
she set out her test equipment. I've been bitten sitting next to a
citronella candle so they don't work that well. However, I've put rubbing
alcohol on my skin then walked outside and was mosquito free for about 10
minutes. I'll just stick to long sleeves with a hood for my head since they
grab my face and neck too.
