Does anyone know how much money Chiltern Seeds (in Britain) wants for
sending a catalog to the US? Does it have to be in pounds?

Thanks,

Chiltern Seeds asks U.S.$5.00 for their catalogue, refundable on first
order. Well worth sending for. I use mine as a reference as well as to
order seeds. When I get a new copy each year I hand my last years copy to a
gardening friend. Never goes to waste.

I heartily agree with all this. They will accept five dollars cash
(in bills). This is what I did for my catalogue order, and I had no
problems (but your milage may vary). For the seed order itself, I
used Mastercard. That, too, works just fine.

I'll add that their catalogue is not only informative about plants,
but they also explain the origin of the botanical names (e.g.
Arctostaphylus < Gk. arktos (bear) + staphylos (berry/grape)).

By the way, I first found out about them thanks to the newsgroup.
Whoever it was (sorry, I don't remember), thanks!

I just sent a $5.00 (US) bill in the envelope, and I got the Chiltern
catalog in a couple of weeks. I know that sending cash by mail is not
safe, but for the small amounts generally involved when ordering catalogs,
I take the risk since it is easy, and cheaper than paying by check (to
send a check in US dollars but from a canadian bank can be very
expensive...)

You seem to have the answers already, but if anyone needs their fax or
phone numbers they are:

Phone +1229 581137 (24 hours)
Fax +1229 584549

The catalogue is well worth getting. The current issue is 270 pages long and contains details
of about 4,000 plants.

The catalogue is wonderful, such a good read. Pity the seed doesn't
come up to the same standard. Chilterns aren't very good at dealing
with failed seed.
