I have a recommendation for those of you old rose lovers.
Last year I bought a "Reine Victoria" [Bourbon] rose from Park.
I planted it in a pot outside my window at work (facing South).
It didn't bloom the first year, but this year it bloomed at the
beginning of May and it is blooming again right now. What is wonderful
about this particular rose is its fragrance! It fills the
entire office with it. It smells the way a rose should, not
citrusy, not musky, just "rosie". The blooms are magenta and cabbage-shaped,
remind me of roses in Dutch flower paintings.
I definitely recommend this rose for its fragrance.
I just got another Bourbon rose, a "Ferdinand Pichard" and planted it
in a pot next to the other one. I hope it smells as good, at least the
blooms will be striking, since they have red & white stripes.
