I can never be satisfied.

Here, come to my garden and see the Lagerlite encrusted

They would *love* it there, as long as they get enough sun, so don't plant
them *under* the bridge. And, be careful when you prune them, they have
these two long thorns near the top that almost look like horns.

I have always wondered why some people are so pendantic about rose nomenclature.
Grandiflora, verses Floribunda, China verses Tea scented China, polyantha verses
miniature. Since the current roses are so mixed up in heritage, I really like
the classifications that go by descriptions of how something does in the garden.
Hence I REALLY like the "large flowered climber" designation, since climbers are
the most mixed bag of all. Shrub is also good, since it encourages people to
use rose bushes more often in landscaping, rather than just in monoculture beds.

We haven't had a discussion on this in a while. any other classifciations that
are descriptive that you really like?

the best rose for slopes is something called 'Little Green Snake', as it likes
to grow low to the ground, and will root also. R. californica or R. woodsii are
also good for naturalizing, since they sucker readily, and could stabilize any
slope.

you're mine.
I have sent three different departments at aol an extremely lengthy,
very specific, attachment-loaded, screen-name inclusive, url-explanatory,
account of Celeste and the trollettes' criminal invasion and disruption
of reg.gardens.roses.
Any attempts at upping the rose talk around here--staying topical, as
your deluded pissbrain would come up with--are done way after the cowz
done gone out, left the barn.
Like Celeste said, this is like OJ and Charles Manson writing the LA DA.
You punks. We'll shine the light of day on youze forthwith, you bunch
of nobodies with no identities.
It's not clear where you're coming from anymore. Or who you are.
How are we supposed to know? Send us all some mail. Please.
Help us yank your accounts. Celeste. hahahaha. Celeste. el punko.

I never had any roses. These people are idiots.
Hotmail is still tolerating my criminal behavior which goes contrary to
every rule they make, isn't this lovely?
I still expect them to pull my tiny hose any day now.

I don't know Celeste, I really like the sound of "wichuriana rambler" and
multiflora rambler.
Don't you think "large flowered climber" is rather DULL?

I don't know pops, this designation is the worst as far as I can tell. It
misleads people into thinking these plant will go into a 10" pot on their tiny
porch, when they are really a BIG miniature. Case in point is Mighty Mouse,
which is a "patio rose" and is (in my garden) growing in a 18" square pot, and
is being trained as a pillar. It is exceeding 4 ft. already. Hardly a small
rose. However, since we need a better name for these big miniatures than just
"miniature" (which in itself is misleading, since some get to be 4 ft shrubs),
perhaps this is a good compromise.

The classification "Miniatures" only describes the size of the BLOOM, not the
PLANT. Then there's "Micro-Minis" which the blooms are even smaller than
"Miniatures" are. The classification "Climbers" describes the growth pattern,
same with "Ramblers".

Just trying to clear all the up.

I agree. Many of my mini's are 4 ft wide and five ft tall. It makes it hard to
design a bed without growing the bush for a year or so to see how 'miniature'
it really is.

Yeah Kate, Phyllis Bide does that too. I don't think hubby will ever

It doesn't appear that there are very many career IT or network people on
this group, or the Celeste issue wouldn't be a source of any uncertainty.
Celeste isn't posting from AOHell, she's giving the impression of using
hotmail to anonymize her site of origin, but if you look at her PATH, you
see: Path:
news.rdc1.sdca.home.com!newshub1.home.com!news.home.com!newsfeed.concentric.n
et!newsfeed.stanford.edu!arclight.uoregon.edu!hammer.uoregon.edu!newshost.nmt
.edu!chaos.aoc.nrao.edu!not-for-mail

...so she's probably hacking through notoriously insecure university
networks, using a canned relay program. (Nota bene: Celeste is no guru,
she's a "script kid", aka "Warez D00d", able to run "pirate" software if
someone else writes it for her, but no Morris Worm hackette. She's
probably using a fraudulent string in some u-Soft browser, so her header
says: NNTP-Posting-Host: layka-20.nmt.edu.

I'm not familiar with NNTP-Posting-Host: layka-20.nmt.edu, but if
she's hacked herself a student account thru New Mexico Tech, and
you think it's worth it to complain, here is the NIC entry:

...but in all likelihood, here X-PostingHost entry is just
forged nonsense. Being able to forge headers is the FIRST
skill a news-canceller learns, and Celeste knows that much.

It's clear that Celeste attempted to impersonate someone from one of
the troll groups, and has lost control of the results of her lies.
Celeste is a (many year) post-surgical transsexual from Redmond, WA who
probably should never have had surgery, since it's evident she was
either not a true transsexual, or her mind had too many other issues to
remain stable for long. For whatever reason, she pretty much destroyed
alt.support.srs, a group she was allowed to post the newgrp message for,
by runnning a cancelbot from her business' ISDN line, which she
(Microsoft user, again) thought was a major technical advantage, giving
her technical supremacy and control of Usenet.

For this, she was voted Usenet Kook of the Month on
net.administration.net.abuse.usenet, and had her net access denied by
her ISP's who couldn't tolerate unauthorized third-party cancels. She
_did_ learn her lesson about censoring others, but is now clearly
flipping out for something to do. Her company no longer has a saleable
product, being rendered irrelevant by a drop-down wizard in Visual
Basic, so I'd guess she's living on residuals from support contracts,
and planning on going on disability when they expire. Her company's web
page is largely composed of "Under Construction" signs which haven't
changed in two years.

She has a long history on the net for anybody who wants to dig it out of
the archives. I happened to get a bunch of pictures of her, both
post-SRS and pre-, when she was one of those "public nutcases" you see
at Venice Beach, a bearded wierdo in a dress with a full beard and a
guitar, perched atop rollerblades, beneath a TURBAN(?) Turban. I don't
have the imagination to make _that_ up:). How much time elapsed between
that role and the one of "computer guru" (using a Microsoft PC
O/S--right) I don't know. She seemed to have a nice house in
Washington, but only herself to live in it.

My point is: please don't judge all tranny's by her. We are a diverse
bunch, surely, but the stats for post-surgical transsexuals indicate
that they are generally as level-headed a bunch of bland wage-earners as
you're likely to find. It's the ones who slip through the evauation
process who end up being a problem later, and this seems to be the big
C's story. What y'all rose people are stuck with here is a secondary
flame war perpetuated by the loonies she brought in with her, and the
fact that she's lost control of it is small confort.

As for myself, my history on Usenet goes back further than the archives,
and can be exhumed by reference to:

tk329, Theoni Kallandra, Theonie Kallandra, Theoni[e] Elizabeth
Kallandra, jott, and/or Joan Tine. I post that so as not to contribute
to the confusion by spinning off a colloquy as to whether or not *I*
am one of her sock puppets.

Your remedies aren't as good as ours were last summer, since she hasn't
actually attacked the channel with cancels (that I know of, and I'm not
motivated to look.) About the best you can do is to filter her so you
don't see her nonsense. Given the breadth of her newsgroup
participation, it's clear she goes where she can get noticed, and
speaking as someone who knew her well enough to talk to her on the
phone, her mental state is utterly impervious to any form of persuasion
or normative correction. She's insane.

Obligatory on-topic:

Living in SoCal with sandy soil isn't nearly as bad as I'd expected.
Two Guy de Maupessants, one semi-flourishing in open shade, one JOYOUSLY
flowering in partial shade, and a Sherifa Asma attaining tree status,
plus two Pin`atas in a condition which convinces me I need at least one
more...I love orange:). I'm holding my breath to see what my Arizona
will do after cutting it back a little.

Best wishes,

Theoni Kallandra

P.S., Anybody who wants to learn more about how the net and news works
so they can deal with her kind can read the O'Reilly book, "DnS and
BIND" (dragonfly cover) or look up the following commands:

finger, nslookup, traceroute (tracert on Windows) ping, whois,
host.

The more you know about networks, the more you realize how much
you need Linux:).

Yeah Kate, Phyllis Bide does that too. I don't think hubby will ever
forgive me for planting it right next to his fish pond, but at least
it means he'll get some new shirts for his birthday. ;) >>

Fourth of July really gets that way. Speaking of Fourth of July, have a Happy
one, and also my Fourth of July had a cane break off. :( Oh well, I may get
three more Fourth of July's :)
The roses are blooming their little hearts out.

Whasha matta C-dah'lin, no more sunshine and light? No more the celestial

suggested to everyone in your group that they put one particularly obnoxious

do that to you as well? No matter, you probably don't care anymore. Or is
it that you are trying to win the KoTm award 2 years running? Now that

You are so pleasant. It is not readily apparent that you are an idiot.
Unfortunately, it becomes apparent soon enough. My reply (above) to the
wonderfully creative fiction someone posted re my "true identity" was
steeped in sarcasm. I do like to encourage creativity, though. Let's hear
more on the "Celeste is the anti-christ" theme!"

Naa, part of my nom de plume - but I thought you were referring to "nic" as
in the InterNic registration name... once a required thing to post to
usenet, no longer. h.a.n.d.

A likely story. Were they elves who typed "Seven" into the little box, then?

Although I happen to like Theoni, there is virtually no chance that the
Celeste infesting this newsgroup is the same one to which Theoni refers.

When you "visit" a website, one ought to be more careful. I saw that
picture too, it was a picture of a Sikh street musician (wearing a
traditional costume - not a dress) and not the same individual who posts to
alt.support.srs as Celeste. I've met her, and it's definitely *not* the
same person.

I hope that the information Theoni provided helps resolve the problem with
"Celeste" in this newsgroup. But I'd caution you not to waste too much time
chasing the wrong "Celeste". The style, content and motivation is *far* too
different for them to be the same individual. I'm sure it may be easier to
chalk-up your Celeste to some previously identified individual, but it would
probably be more useful to track-down the *actual* idenity of the poster.

Kara. We don't really care who Celeste might be. No need to. Thanks to kill
files he/she/it has become irrelevant to this newsgroup.

OK I guess I dont fully understand what is going on here. What I would like to
ask is do the real posters here (the people that have been a great deal help to
over the past several months) think that it is important enough to continue to
attack each other and send people like me (newbies) looking elsewhere for an
education in roses. The people hear are very helpfull when I ask a direct
question and I would like to thank everyone that has tried to help me.
Thanks, Ed

Where do you live? That makes a big difference in what roses you can and
can't grow. What do you grow now? Start by asking a question. Someone
knowledgeable person or other will respond. We really do welcome newbies
with genuine interest in roses.

Julia

Poor Ed. Please do keep posting, don't mind the bellicose ones. Just stick
to roses and ignore the rest of it. That's what I do.
