Stig Dalstrom, the botanical illustrator and orchidologist, will be
collaborating with Turkish professor, Gokhan Deniz to lead a small
tour of plant-lovers through the mountainous region of southwestern
Turkey in April 2010.

Stig, well known for his years as Curator of Orchids at Selby Gardens
in Sarasota, Florida, is committed to raising public awareness about
endangered natural habitats. His Wild Orchid Man series began with a
2009 documentary film on the elusive Ghost Orchid of Florida's
Fakahatchee Swamp.

Gokhan is an indefatigable hunter of orchids ( Turkey is home to many
rare terrestrial species) and other indigenous plants. He lecturers at
Mediterranean University in Antalya, Turkey, and is working on a much-
anticipated guidebook to the flowering plants of Asia Minor.

Ever since I watched Midnight Express, I never wanted anything to do with
Turkey.

Also foraging around in the forests for orchids may have you coming across
an illegal poppy field. After what I have seen the drug cartels do in
Mexico, I would not want to find out what they do in Turkey.
