Are there and games for the Genesis that are based on the
Rogue/Hack/Moria genre that popular on Unix systems? I think that it
would be neat to play one of these games with the addition of graphics.

Thanks,
Dru

Fatal Labyrinth is essentially Rogue with graphics. You can probably get it
fairly cheap.

I think that the only one out there is Fatal Labyrinth. GameGear has Dragon
Crtystal which is of the same genre.

Fatal Labyrinth is like Rogue, but it is not a good game. Definitely do
not buy it. I rented it and defeated it in 4 hours my first try. It may
be a good game for young children, though.

Gauntlet is a game available for most home systems, (although not Genesis?),
that is like Rogue in real time. The complexity is much lower than Rogue
because of less variety in potions and spells.

A game that is not really like Rogue, but has similar feel and some of the
same elements, is Warsong. Warsong is a really good fighting/magic game,
but it could be better if it had more randomness and if it did LOS.

Rogue and Nethack are great games despite the lack of graphics. Fatal
Labyrinth is bad in spite of all the pretty colors.

Fatal Labyrynth is not the best RPG for genesis. In games like Phantasy
Star II, Shining in the Darkness, and Might & Magic, you get multi person
groups and much more complex scenarios. Phantasy Star II has a top-down view
of the maps/mazes/towns and very difficult dungeons to find your way in.
Shining in the Darkness and Might & Magic are first person games. Shining
in the Darkness has better graphics and storyline, but Might & Magic gives the
player more freedom to explore dugeons/quests in the order he/she likes. It
is also a longer game. I would say that these three are some of the best for
Genesis.
