Hello all,

I'm a noobie. I just purchased my first PS3 about two weeks ago. I
purchased a game along with it. On the spine of the game box there was
a pictogram of a globe with a number one. I was under the impression
that PS3 game were supposed to be world play (i.e. territory free).
What does this mean?

Thanks,

the games are indeed region free - yet for some reason they do that - UK
games mark themselves as region 2 on the case even though any ps3
anywhere will play it - i did once read that some games can give
problems on SD televisions with the 50hz PAL and 60HZ ntsc settings but
if you're using HD then there's no PAL or NTSC in the chain and no issue
whatsoever.

Gareth,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write back to me. I can
assure you that it's appreciated. Between the time I wrote the
original posting and today, 14-NOV-2011, I was able to get to the Book
Off that's in New York City. I purchased a Japanese game as a test. It
was Virtua Fighter 5. It worked perfectly. It was marked "3".

Cheers to you,
