I don't know if any of you guys follow the arcade scene but in case
you do, you might be interested to know that this game came out few
months ago. It seems to be a souped up version of Sega Rally Revo
that was released for both Xbox360 and PS3. What's interesting is the
game runs on Sega's new arcade hardware called Europa-R successor of
the two year old Lindberg with the following specs: dual core Intel
processor, 4 gigabytes of RAM and an 8800 series nvidia graphics
chipset. I hear the game looks beautiful at 60FPS.

It would make an excellent arcade game. It's a shame the original home
version sold something to the tune of 100k cross platform total and
resulted in the selling of Sega Racing Studio.

I bought the XBox 360 version on sale, and I find it competent but not
thrilling. My thought was that they should have left the Sega Rally brand
out of it, and sell the game on its own merits without the baggage that
comes with the series identity. It looks like they took the best parts of
the new technology and applied to the inevitable arcade game anyway.

Hmm, I didn't realise it got relatively poor sales. Are driving games
just not in demand these days? Or is everyone just after the Forzas
and Gran Turismos?

I guess they were banking on the brand to boost sales? I do notice
some of the trademarks of the series with the announcer's /
navigator's commentary.

One opinion at the time stated that Rally racing just isn't popular in
the States, but the game failed to sell well in Europe as well. The
reviews absolutely trashed SRR for being too "shallow" with "only" 21
tracks.

The way the game looks and plays, I think it was designed from the
ground up to be a Sega Rally game. It really is a beautiful extension
of Sega Rally gameplay, with new types of terrain to mess with the
traction it extends the original Sega Rally's dynamic of four tire dirt
and asphalt physics and powerslides. It will be interesting to see if
Codemasters (who inherited Sega Racing Studio) uses any of these ideas
in some new franchise.
