I've seen a few threads mentioning Treasure. Treasure made some really cool
games on the Genesis, but I haven't seen much of them lately. Does someone
want to list the games they've created? I'm afraid I might have missed
something really good. While your at it, could ya give me a short
description?

Actually, the Radiant Silvergun game that's been quite a subject lately is a
Treasure game, though I'm personally a bit wary about it since it doesn't seem
to "look" like a Treasure game. Anhoo, a short list with short descriptions:

Genesis games:

Gunstar Heroes - platform action shooter greatest game in the world
Light Crusaders - isometric RPG
Dynamite Heady - bizarre puppet platform action thing
Alien Soldier - side scrolling Street Fighter action

N64 game:

Yuke Yuke Troublemakers - action platform blasphemy

Saturn games:

Guardian Heroes - side scrolling Final Fight RPG Street Fighter
Silhouette Mirage - bizarre long platform action
Radiant Silvergun - some kind o' shooter...

That's it, I think! If I'm missing any, I'm sure someone else will correct me.

Agreed. How they managed to cram all of GH into an 8-meg cart I'll never
know...

>Light Crusaders - isometric RPG

Haven't played much of this one...

>Dynamite Heady - bizarre puppet platform action thing

Again, a great game, if a little on the hard side. Lots of detail in the
backgrounds, and the bosses are pure genius. Whimsical and fun.

>Alien Soldier - side scrolling Street Fighter action

Not really street fighter, more a side-scrolling shooter that emphasizes
technique over blasting lots of things. Almost 90% boss encounters. Also
hard (I beat it, though, if only thru the magic of Genecyst savestates).
Only released in Japan (and maybe Europe).

Also:
Ronald McDonald's Treasureland Adventure - Very little of the Treasure
spirit in this one; maybe they resented being made to do a fast
food licensed game? The scarf is a nice gameplay device, though. But
collecting "shakes" and "potato" for power-ups is just lame, as is using
"humburgers" (spelled that way in the game) for a life bar. Treasure +
McDonald's = above average licensed game.

Yu Yu Hakusho - 2-layer fighting game based on a popular anime.
Supports up to four players at once, basically the predecessor to Guardian
Heroes. Features impressive special moves and a GH-style combo counter.
Never released outside of Japan.

And don't forget Axelay and Contra 3 on the SNES... Treasure worked for
Konami before splitting off.

>N64 game:

Never played, although from looking at the box, the main character looks a
lot like Serena from GH.

>Saturn games:
>
>Guardian Heroes - side scrolling Final Fight RPG Street Fighter

And absolutely brilliant! One of their best games ever, next to Gunstar
Heroes.

>Silhouette Mirage - bizarre long platform action

Have not tried this one.

>Radiant Silvergun - some kind o' shooter...

If it's a shooter and it's Treasure, I'm all for it!

C'mon, try it, you'll like it.... :)

Without going into a long review, certain enemies can only be attacked when
you're facing left, and others when you're facing right. This adds a whole
new dimension to the platform game. That plus the usual Treasure weirdness.
Even Next Generation (who normally diss 2D) liked it.

And actually...Treasure made the original Contra and Castlevania as well as
some other Konami classic that I can't remember. YES I KNOW Contra and
Castlevania were "Konami" games, but Treasure was formed from Konami (would
explain why they are so good, Konami is a great company). Treasure was a
development team who made the originals, but formed thier own company, due to
restrictment (the team wanted to do some things with games, explore per-say,
Konami didn't want to try it). So there are some other great games made by
Treasure...er...the development team at least. See ya.

TREASURE! My favorite company. As far as I know, they're ex-employees
from Konami of Japan who worked on games like SNES Castlevania 4,
Contra 3, and a couple of other classics before quitting and forming their
own company. As far as games under the Treasure label, let's see. Here's the
ones I remember:

Sega Genesis

Alien Soldier - hard to find Japanese Mega Drive game. It's basically a whole
bunch of boss levels back to back. Great graphics and sound and the
gameplay is very cool. If you can find it, get it.

Dynamite Heady (sic) - action platformer. Featured a cute little insect type
creature that could switch heads to perform different moves. Really cool
bosses and unusual graphics that included collapsing backgrounds.

Gunstar Heroes - in my opinion, the best platform game available for the
Genesis. Everything from control to graphics to bosses to sounds are
amazing. Lots of levels and very high replayability. Highly reccomended!

Treasureland - you would think a McDonalds game would be lame. WELL,
you're wrong. This game kicks ass. The story is that Sega would not release
Gunstar Heroes unless Treasure agreed to do a license game as well. That
turned out to be Treasureland featuring Ronald McDonald. It's kind of like
Dynamite Heady. Great graphics and gameplay. Neat game.

Yu Yu Hakusho (sic) - four person fighting game based on the manga series.
Only for Japanese Mega Drive and i've never played it. Supposedly it's cool
and the characters can jump in and out of the background on different planes
kind of like King of Fighters for the Neo Geo.

Sega Saturn

Guardian Heroes - a classic! Cross between an RPG and an action game like
Final Fight. Cool graphics and great gameplay with a superb multiplayer mode.
You should be able to pick this up for really cheap and it's very worth it!

Radiant Silvergun - it's not out yet, but I trust they will break new ground
with the shooter genre.

Silhouette Mirage - another great platformer with tons of unique gameplay and
great graphics. There is a Playstation version coming out over here or you
will have to make do with the import Japanese Saturn or Playstation versions.
Difficult at first, but well worth spending some time with.

Playstation

Silhouette Mirage - see above description. Working Designs is releasing it
over here.

N64

Mischief Makers - i'm not a big N64 fan, so I haven't played it. It kind of
looked like a light hearted Gunstar Heroes with some 3D effects.

Hope that helps. I think this list is complete, but correct me if i'm wrong.

<snip again>

I now realize I forgot Yu Yu Hakusho in my quick list (I can't believe I forgot
that one...) but Treasureland is new to me... This isn't Mick and Mack: Global
Gladiators, right? I read just about every game related thing I can find and have
never heard of this game. Could someone please provide more information on this
game (when it was released, how was it, etc.). I can't seem to find any
information on this game!

Thanks,
Benjamin

Actually, it plays like Guardian Heroes (versus mode) except that there are
only 2 planes, not 3. The 4 player mode is really cool and it's compatible
with the Nomad (with an adapter) since you can plug a Teamplayer into port
2. Anyone that has a Nomad/Genesis that likes fighting games would be
pleased with this one. I would say YYH and NBA Live 95 are the best
multi-tap games made for 16-bit.

I don't really play fighters on 16-bit anymore except on the go (Nomad).
YYH, SSF2T, Weaponlord, DBZ, MK3, are all fun to play on it. YYH is nice
to take to someone else's house since the Nomad can hook to a TV also.
Four player games are usually popular in this situation and there are few
non-sports titles that use the tap -- YYH, MK3, Gauntlet, and General Chaos
are the only ones that come to mind. Of course, sports games are fun
multitap games, too, but some of my friends just don't care for those!

I think it's actually called "Ronald McDonald's Treasureland" or something
like that. You had to sort of force yourself to play it because who wants to
control Ronald McDonald?...

Global Gladiators, while cool, isn't a Treasure game. I believe it's one of
David Perry's creations.

Actually Alien Soldier is a shooter, like Gunstar Heroes, but one-player.
Huge sprites, bigger, meaner bosses, etc. I could expand on that, but I'm
busy.

Yes, I know that. The "Street Fighter" description was referring to the mainly
one on one nature of the game.
