I'm pretty impressed of what I've seen and played of this game so far.
Basically its a 3D action platformer game with full freedom of movement
within the building. You need to listen for the sounds of trapped victims
as you rescue them from the burning building. I thought this was really
neat how they incorporated sound into the gameplay. Control is pretty
simplistic, easy to adapt, and fun to use. The only problem I had with it
is sometimes the camera angle is in an awkward position and you have to
adjust it to tell what you're trying to jump to. You can rotate the
camera with the controller though. It is an analog compatable game. From
what I could tell you could select between two different characters, a
guy and a girl. You'll have a basic water weapon which you can use to put
out fires, and you not only have a jump, but a double jump which makes
jumping to platforms a lot more interesting. There is definately a lot of
potential in this game, and I'm eagerly awaiting it. Its very early but
if they get the camera problems fixed up, which they have plenty of time
to do, it should turn out pretty well.

i'm curious about the way the flames are portrayed. from the quicktime and
images i have seen, they look like 2D sprites and appear a bit pixelly
(whereas the rest of the surfaces look absolutely flawless). do they
regenerate in a random fashion dynamically, or are they like flat bits of
graphics which just sit around and run through their animations?

i guess Sonic Team could put some of the algorythms, from Nights which
changed the BGM, to use here! even better would be if they could write
a routine for the fire that directly incorporated ideas of fractal theory
in the process of generating the game graphics. *that* would be awesome,
and truly capture the essence of why we find flames so captivating to
watch..

at the moment Burning Rangers bears some similarity to Dracula 64, especially
with the falling floor section! and Sega could well trump Konami if they
get the game out this year. here's hoping for a 2 player NetLink
co-operative mode, for that would be the shit..

I think the camera problem is evident in most full 3D games. Mario64 had
it, so did Sonic World.

Well yeah... he stated that in his previous post, that they have plenty of
time to improve it. They will...

As for my impressions, I've only seen pics/movies, but it looks very nice
from what I've seen. No, it's not the 'bombshell' that I expected, but
it's still a nice suprise.

Personally, I would've liked a NiGHTS 2, but since I haven't played this
game I can't pass judgment on it yet. Graphically, it looks like the best
thing I've ever seen the Saturn put out.

Looking forward to it,

No if you compare the two to Burning Rangers, Burning Rangers is more of

a problem. While Mario 64 had its problem at times, for the most part it
did a pretty good job. In Burning Rangers, sometimes its completely
shifting to an awakward view.

I noticed that the EGM people have been slagging it already.

Oh EGM is hopeless! They had an article on Samurai Showdown III for the
*Saturn* and kept mentioning it in the context of the PSX. Now if that's
not an indication.....(Number 89, pages 294-295).
