I bought a Sega Dreamcast with games advertised on
rec.games.video.marketplace for $90 from Matt Raymond a couple of months
ago. He has also advertised on this newsgroup as well. His email
address is Layzi...@hotmail.com. He also posts newsgroup messages
using rb...@umich.edu <Gina Bond-Fody>. After waiting almost a month
after I mailed my check and not receiving anything in the mail, I
emailed him to check on the status of the package. After my third email
to him, in which I threatened to take appropriate action against him, he
finally replied. He claimed the package was sent to the wrong address
and was returned to him and that he would ship it back out again the
next day. After another week passed without anything shwoing up in the
mail, I emailed him again. This time he claimed that he hadn't shipped
the package because he "got the package back and the games with crack"
from being shipped . He never explained what prompted him to open up
the package and miraculously discover this damage instead of simply
shipping the package out again as he promised, why damage to the games
(he didn't say whether it was two, all, or anything in between) would
prevent him from sending the rest of the presumeably undamaged items or
renegotiating the deal, how each game CD could possibly sustain this
type of damage housed inside a jewel case, which itself is housed inside
a cardboard box, while nothing else was damaged, or why he didn't even
contact me to let me know about this supposed damage and that he didn't
ship the package the next day. As a result of this problem, he said he
would send me a refund (which begs the question: so if I hadn't
contacted him to check on the package, he wouldn't have bothered to send
me a refund at all?). I finally received a refund for $75. I paid him
$90. When I emailed him about the discrepancy, he eloquently claimed,
"you gave me a check for $75 man I have it I can show you my bank
statment. you only gave $75 thats all I got." I countered by sending
him a scan of my cancelled check proving that I paid $90. I asked for
the remaining $15. I have not received a reply to that email or any of
the others I have sent since. Beware of Matt Raymond. He has posted
many ads wanting to sell or trade his wares on many newsgroups. Here
is his contact information:

It's sad to see someone put a price tag on his reputation,
especially when it's as little as $15.
