Just look at what is going on during the above ground levels ;

Multiple scaling of both road-side objects plus vehicles
The Batman symbol in the sky rotating left-to-right
Mulitple layers of parallax in the sky !

Truly an achievement back then ! Was it 1992 or 1993 ?
It's just a pity it still had the shitty platformer levels carried over
from the Megadrive game.....

Yup, and the color schemes are such that I wouldn't have the art done
any other way. The same is the case with Battlecorps, Thunderstrike and
Soul Star, great colors, smooth scaling and effects, quick load times
(that 50MB file contains the actual load time before the level!). There
is just no real ground for all the bad press and false 'histories'
stating that the Sega CD had no 'real' upgrade over the Genesis and Snes
in hardware.
The Snes wasn't even the standard at the time for scaling and rotation
hardware, the dual System 16 board was IIRC. The Sega CD was the first
home hardware to be doing multiple sprite and background scaling in
game, though the Neo Geo was pretty close as well( and several times the
price). It didn't do quite as many simultaneous sprites scaled as the
dual System 16 board, but it was doing it while scaling and rotating a
background "mode 7" style. Heh, then there's the common perception of
the 32X, which could run dual System 16 games in emulation, but wasn't
powerful "enough"...Sega couldn't do anything right could they? ;)
