I work for Video Store Magazine and I am writing a story of my own. What
I would like to get from members of this group is whether this delay makes
any difference. Will those of you who were considering buying Ultra 64
over Sony PSX or Sega Saturn wait until April, or will you jiump in and
buy PSX or Saturn in September of 1995 (in the U.S.) instead?
If you do choose to buy PSX or Saturn, do you consinder it will be a
long-term purchase or merely a stop-gap for seven months until Ultra 64
finally arrives?
Any other comments on this delay would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Nintendo would've been wise to NOT make promises if they couldn't keep them.
If they had U64 ready for a fall '95 release, the competition among Sega,
Sony, and Nintendo would've been intense. But since Nintendo is so sure that
people will wait six extra months for their machine (which I don't believe is
the case), they chose to give U64 some extra development time. And in doing
so, Nintendo managed to lop off a significant portion of its potential buyers,
who will see Saturn and PS and realize that Nintendo's been pulling the wool
over their eyes all this time.

I truly hope there aren't a lot of people out there who would consider a
$400 investment a "stopgap" for another system which has just achieved
vaporware status. On the other hand, Nintendo should realize that they're
not going to have a vast market share anymore, particularly with the U64
delay and strong competition from Sega and Sony--the delay only puts them at
a further disadvantage.

Personally, this delay IMHO,is really gonna make a BIG difference.
Considering, the no. of games Sega and Sony are releasing. In any event,
it would be a roughly a year before NU64 launches and Can you imagine the
no. of games that Sega and Sony will have under its belt. Also,
considering the first batch of Sega and Sony games. I'll say they look
great and play great. The competition will be stiff between Sega and
Sony. I believe that the delay would also cause Nintendo to lose a great
deal of supporters who have been eagerly waiting for the NU64.
Well,If I were to wait for the NU64. I would be missing out a great deal
of games Sega and Sony are releasing, wouldn't I? :)

Like what nukulkij poom has written. I wouldn't consider a U.S.400 a
stop-gap for another system unless he's/she's really rich. :)

Nothing more can be said about it. The NU64 is set to be released next
year. I would really like to know what other companies like Jaguar and
3Do have in store in the upcoming E3. Also,it would interesting to know
what Sega and PSX are planning to do at the moment.

If the hype was true, I was going to buy a U64 (don't flame
me, dammit, I just want good games). But now, it looks
like I am going to buy a Saturn.

You tell them I'm coming, and HELL'S COMING WITH ME!!!!
*sigh*
I love GAMES, and it really doesn't matter to me what system
there are on(though I DO favor Sega over Nintendo), but I
believe that Nintendo will lose ground to Sony and Sega because
of this. How much? Hard to say...Genesis had a big time
headstart and the SNES came roaring back. Nintendo is *huge*,
and has a large, blindly loyal base to draw from-I think
they'll be ok in that aspect. Where they may lose is those who
actually use their heads to make the decision. Comparing
system power becomes like penis-envy...there's no real point to
it. What matters first, last, and always is the game quality,
as everyone has stated before, and I think Sega and Sony do
quite well in those areas-and Nintendo may find catching up
harder to do this time.

hmm...I didn't just waffle here, did I?

I agree COMPLETELY with the previous post. While Nintendo has the NAME, the
Genesis put Sega on the map as a quality producer. Although everyone knows
that the Master System was superior hardware-wise, its software was too
little. I think that the Saturn's head start will make it VERY tough for
NIntendo to catch up. So what if it's going to be cheaper? By the time it
actually comes out, Sega and Sony will have an incrediable base and Nintendo
will HAVE to be that cheap in order to sell some systems.....
