That's because most servers cache the IP address for a specific
amount of time. We're working on a fix for this, so if you can't
see the new site right away, try back tomorrow.

And I found this:
"We've moved!
We have changed servers!
If you see this, your name server lookup for www.segaoa.com has not been
reset with our new IP
address. (Your administrator determines how frequently your name server is
refreshed).
Once your name server has been refreshed, you will not see this page
anymore. Thanks!"
It would've been nice to give us the new IP number, so we could just
type in http://(IP number goes here)/, which BTW would work just fine.

This was always a big beef of mine with the old site. Those of us with
slow links or who are using lynx find it very difficult, if not downright
impossible, to navigate through "Netscape Enhanced" (which usually means
liberal use of active images) sites. If there's one thing that the various
"style guides" for HTML recommend, its that good HTML takes in to
consideration the various browsers and their limitations. A well thought
out text only interface is highly recommended for customer satisfaction,
not just because some people use lynx or other text only browsers, but
because images can be a real pain to deal with depending on the speed of
the connection, net traffic, etc. I think that Sega should take this into
consideration when designing their web pages.

I had the same problem earlier in the day (5pm mdt). You get the error
message saying something to the effect of, "If you see this message, the
address hasn't been updated yet." Anyway, it worked later on (9pm mdt).
Check the site out. It's pretty cool. Nice layout, lots of info (some
from the old site, of course). They had an article on the away team (was
that in the old site? I don't remember it...) which was pretty
informative. They have a search engine for games coming out, and a chat
line (which was decidedly empty when I checked..) That's about all I
remember for now.
And, oh yeah, it was good to finally be able to attach a face with your
name, Aimee. :-)
later....

Which means that 30% do not. It wouldn't take too much work to allow the
remaining three out of every ten people to use the site effectively.
>2. The most beautiful, most informative sites all use advanced Netscape commands.
Most Beautiful I'll believe, but as for most informative, that is
probably a matter of opinion. The most informative sites simply lay out
their information in a logical fashion which is the whole idea behind
good HTML. Active images may indeed assist this, but ther should be an
alternative.
>3. Baud rates are skyrocketing all over the country.
True. Still, there are times when the net traffic is heavy when it would
be nice to delay image loading and still be able to navigate a site.

Again, I accept that. There are text only browsers that can perform the
HTML 3 functions with the obvious exception of active images.

Of this I have no doubt. I liked the look of the old set up too. One
further recommendation I'd like to make is replacing the ISMAP "button
bar" with a set of icons with the ALT attributes set appropriately. I'll
admit that I haven't been able to see the bar, but icons are usually
easier to update, and you may need to add new navigation buttons to the
page at some point.
I didn't intend to come across as an "angry customer", but I have a
little experience with HTML and so I try to be sensitive to what is
considered good style, and I am only trying to make suggestions as to how
to improve the site and let it speak to more customers.

The ISP I am at changed WWW servers four months ago, and quite a few sites
are STILL going to the old server. It seems they only refresh the cache
every six months or so......
If you can't hit the new Sega WWW server, don't yell at Sega, yell at your ISP
AFTER they shoot the system admin !

I was referring specifically to tables in this quote. There are some pieces of information that are really best presented as a tabl=

I didn't perceive your comments that way, but I thought you deserved an answer from me. This site has been my heart and soul for th=

[Regarding making the Sega Web Lynx-friendly:]

Including myself. However, I don't have the equipment to use it from
*home*, which is where I do most of my computing. I also have little
intention of *getting* that equipment, as the $15 a month for the Sega
Channel was a major expenditure for me... (I'm unemployed at the moment.)
>2. The most beautiful, most informative sites all use advanced
>Netscape commands.
Beautiful, I could care little about. Informative? Depends on what
information you seek out. I use Webcrawler, the HTML interface to
Aminet, and the Avatar FTP site's HTML pages most often, and all of
them are extremely Lynx-friendly.
>3. Baud rates are skyrocketing all over the country.
I know. I just went from 2400 baud to 14.4k. A little slow for
graphics and sound, but the text just blazes...
>4. Most of the things we have done that are cutting-edge, like the

That's nice. Only reason I ever visit your site is to look for hints
and tips files. Y'ever consider having some for games less than five
years old? (:3 (Less flippantly, when I wanted to find some tips for
Shining Force II, I couldn't find them anywhere except on your
long-distance (soon to be 900) number. When that goes 900, I'm going
without the tips...)

I've seen it via Netscape. It looks nice. Pity it looks like such
crud when I try to get it from home when I need help with some Sega
stuff... Besides which, even if you *do* have some features which are
Netscape-only, you still need to be kind to the Lynx people. Let's
consider a quick search-and-replace, shall we?
"We'd really *like* to support Lynx, but Netscape has so many cool
features, we're just going to have to dump Lynx support because we're
sure you'll all rush out and get Netscape access instead."
"We'd really *like* to support the (Genesis/Sega CD/32X), but the
Saturn has so many cool features, we're just going to have to dump
Genesis support because we're sure you'll all rush out and get a
Saturn instead."
It's best not to imply to us people stuck with simpler equipment that
you don't care about us, capish? (smile inserted here-- this is
gentle poking, not a full-bore flame)

P.S.: Any chance of the Sega Channel getting an email address? It's
pretty silly when the News Link asks us to write in for neat Web
pages... and I'd like to offer a few tips for the games online, but
they won't be there by the time my letter gets to you guys! (:3

A 28.8 modem link is really too slow for sites like Sega's. It would
be nice to have a good text only format too like Igonline has. Most of
the time if I want to read articles I use Lynx. I'll only use Netscape
if there's really some pics I want to see. Soon I'll be ISDN and it
won't matter too much to me then.
