I read some news about a new programming technique for SS in
Taiwan newsgroup. In the latest issue of Sega magazine, Yu Suzuki said
there is a new technique called "curve polgon"(it's my translation as it
does not mention the English term. Can anyone guess what it is?).

The idea of it is the current technique uses 3 points to represent
a polgon while this new technique uses 4 points instead. By using 4 points,
the texture mapping can be smoother than before, even with less polgons.
He also mention about liqiud metal that can change its own shape. Is the
changing shape polgon possible in current technology?

The new boss in VF3 maybe a liquid metal robot, like the one in
Terminator II.(Don't mixed up, it's what I guess only.)

Beside, he also links the use of this new technique for SS with
VF3. And the two main focus of development of SS in 96 will be the use
of DSP and this new technique.

Does anyone read that article? Or is there any similar news from
SOA?

I read somewhere about a chip in a new 3d accelerator card that
has a Sega controller jack built in that can create rounded polygons,
with the effect of creating perfect looking spheres using only
four polygons.... But I think it was a hardware function, not software...
It drastically reduces the number of polygons that need to be calculated.

I'm not sure about current technology, but since you can only
describe a 2d plane using three points, a fourth point would add depth,
as long as it wasn't in the same plane as the other three... Then
you'd have to have a much more complex texture mapper to use on it...
I've seen similar effects done in a PC demo, but I don't know the techniqe
they used.

I'm thinking that if this IS true, it'll be supported in the
hardware in the next Sega arcade board, but I'm not sure the Saturn could
handle this on a large scale... Maybe they can assign one of the
processors to this effect alone... Guess we'll have to wait and see

SOA? I thought all the cutting edge technology was done in SOJ :)
