In the lastest and last issue of Sega Saturn Magazine, it was stated that
Sega are looking into the possiblility of releasing a Playstation emulator
for the Dreamcast... if this is true, I'd say it's a lock that they'd also
release a Suturn emulator as well. This would pretty much much make the
Playstation 2's rumoured back compatibility a hinderance as it would up the
value of the machine with all of the wasted CPU performance in the same way
as a PC when the same service will be available on the Dreamcast.

However this story was unconfirmed officially from Sega in the issue. SSM are
very reliable however so I'd take it as more than just a normal rumor.

Question: If you own a Saturn, or PSX what good is a backwards compatible
system? If there is some trade in promotion going, then I can see the
benefits, but if I have to pay extra for the thing being backwards
compatible then no thanks.

backward compatable systems are nice. i can save soem space in my room.
it's not a good sight to have neo geo, saturn, dreamcast, psx, nentendo
64, snes, genesis, pc engine, and sega mastersystem in front of a 13 in.
tv. honestly.

I don't agree with having to pay extra so your room looks better. Again,
for all of you who boast about backward compatibility, what's is the benefit
if you already own the previous system?

um, i could get rid of previous system if there were any backward
compatability. I just don't like to make a mess in my room. i am a clean
person. Clean room is a happy room, remember that.

Anyways, I think I hear your mother calling you... are there any intelligent
posters with anything to add to Terrrrrrry's logic? What is the benefit of
backward compatibility if you already own the previous system? With the
exception of a trade -in discount of course.

If they could makes the games look better, and/or reduce load time, then
backward compatibility would certainly be a plus. And yes, having to use
less systems *is* a plus for some of us.
