Steve....
Well it's great that for once there are so many great Genesis releases coming
out, you wish you had enough money for all of them. In just the past 2 months
we've had Jungle Strike, NHL 94, Bill Walsh, Shinobi 3, Ranger X, Shining
Force, SF2:SCE, Mortal Kombat, Rocket Knight, and now Landstalker.
And now on the flip side of the coin... how many new Sega CDs in the past
2 months? One. In the past 4 months? Two. What are you doing, Sega??!!

Well, after reading the original post, I ran out to my local ElBo (where,
by the way, I also just got a job today - happy me!) and picked up Landstalker.
This is a _really_ great game! If you like Zelda and wish there was something
similar for the Genesis, your game is here. I haven't played very far yet,
but so far it looks like there is a lot more variety and difficulty in this
game than Zelda. This game does a good job of creating a convincing
environment for your character to interact with - I mean, it seems much
more fleshed out and real than most video game environments. I'm not up to
a full review right now, but in brief, this is highly recommended.
I've also picked up NHL '94 and Ranger-X in the last few days (our ElBo
sold _80_ copies of NHL '94 in three days!) and have been very happy with both
titles. Good thing I got that job to pay for all this!
About Sega-CD games: C+C Music Factory in a new plastic box was there,
and Spiderman just arrived today. Other arrivals today: Zombies Ate My
Nieghbors for both SNES and Genesis, PTO for Genesis. Now where's Silpheed?!

How is Ranger-X, is the color upgrade noticable? I'm very curious... EGM
said it was the most colorful game they have seen... on Genesis, I guess.

Why, they're flipping the virtual bird at all of us folks stupid
enough to buy the CD unit. They've had nearly a year now to support
the US market, and I think it is becoming increasingly clear to what
extent they intend to do this. I'm not even counting the extra year
of development that has been "wasted" in Japan! (Give us 3x3!
Give us Lodoss! Give us ANYTHING!)
The new CD TV ad really galls me. To show so many "upcoming"
games in one ad, with not a release date in sight seems to border
on false advertising. (In my mind anyway.) I remember seeing the
unit's roll-out at Summer CES over a year ago - so many cool games:
Wing Commander, Ultima Underworld, etc. - Where are they? Oh, yeah.
They're coming "soon."
I'll wait for Silpheed. Then decide whether or not I want to
join the mass exodus from the Sega camp that has begun on r.g.v.marketplace.
I like my antiquated Duo more and more all the time! ;-)

p.s. Ah, that felt good. Thanks for letting me vent!

Ah my brother, you too have felt the sting of the Great Bee, known as the
Sega company. Oooops, thought for a second I was a black preacher.
Feel free to vent all you want. There is no one here with a valid enough
arguement to say that, up to this point, the Sega CD is worth the money we
invested in it.
I've decided that if Joe Montana sucks, and sucks means it isn't 100 X's
better than anything on the cartridge systems, then this mother****ing
piece of garbage is gone. They have had over a year to make it the best
game out, and if it isn't then they're screwed.

---yeahh, it does feel good.

I'll E-mail you a copy of a review of the Japanese version of this game
I posted some time ago. For anyone else who is interested; Colour is
used to good effect in this game. Does it look *twice* as colourful? No,
but it beats most Genesis games I've played in this respect.
I remember most of the EGM reviewers hated the control on this game. The
control requires some technique to master and has a definite learning
curve. Getting the robot to hover using the thrusters is probably the
most difficult thing to learn. I did not think the control was a flaw,
and consider the criticisms written in EGM to be rather harsh.
Overall, a very good game concept. The one drawback to this game, is its
limited challenge after you have the game beat. Since the game is more
strategy oriented rather than reflex oriented, once you know the strategy
to get through each level you will be able to breeze through them during
subsequent plays.
