Well, that's a loaded question (and not really good on the Sega group).
Looking at the store shelves, a fair guesstimate would be around 100
PS2 titles at the moment. Of course, if you count the (mostly) compatible
PSX library, there's nothing on the market in striking range of it.
The bad thing for a bargain gamer (as you seem to be) is that the really
super kick-ass PS2 titles are fairly new ones. I'm talking Gran Turismo 3,
Grand Theft Auto 3, Twisted Metal: Black, those kind of games. The only
early game that you might find to be both cheap and good is probably SSX.
The PS2 isn't quite ready for bargain gaming yet. I'd give it another
3-5 months if you've been willing to wait this long. The most sensible
bargain system aside from the Dreamcast is the PSOne. If money is tight
and you want a LOT of gaming, that's the way to go, IMHO.

Somewhere around 200; not sure the exact number. Sony had promised
200 releases this year at E3, to go along with the 80 or so released
last year. So you're looking at around 280 by the end of December.
Keep in mind some of those are import-only releases, many of which are
fairly low-profile (you wouldn't even find them at import game
retailers).
i am a bargain hunter as you say, because i just get a disability check
and have no 2nd income, it's not because i am cheap!!! and by the way,
i have paid $40 and $50 for many of my games.
thank you for the information though, i appreciate it. : )
