Metal Gear Solid
StarFox (THIS was a tremendous accomplishment for me. This game gave me the
best feeling I ever had of going on a real journey through a fantasy quest.)
Tomb Raider (Nice intro to 3-D roaming. Enjoyed it, though bored at times)
I hate not being able to finish a game, but developers try to make them long
enough and with so much difficulty to appeal to the vocal minority experts
out there.
Not finished:
Star Wars starFighter (no time yet)
Bouncer (finished with 2 of 3 characters. Silpheed has consumed my PS2 for
the last week or so. It is left in non-stop so I cant even watch a DVD until
I finish that one)
Silpheed (Does this game ever truly end? Nearest I can tell, it doesn't.
Bosses are incredible until you get the correct weapon combo.)
Hydro Thunder (kinda got bored)
Tempest X3
Syphon Filter (got insanely difficult)
SatrFox 64 (2 tuff 4 me, doodz)
Crash Bandicoot (Simply ridiculous difficulty level)
Crash Neo Cortex (no time to get into)
Tomb Raider 2 (Definitely no time for this snore-fest)
Blue Stinker <errr.. Stinger> Nuff' said
Diddy Racing (2 many quests, got confusing)
Banjo Kazooie (basically got lost and couldn't remember where to go after
putting the game down for a week.)
Wild Arms (First and only RPG. Started using a walk-thru halfway in. Got
frustrated when I couldn't move 2 inches as I am looking for a particular
town on the non-descript map. Random battles destroyed my interest in the
genre)
Not even started:
Resident Evil:Nemesis (no time!)
Unopened DVD's:
Charlies Angels
6th Day
Michael Jordan IMAX -- Just no time for any of them yet. I need a

I'm sure there are more for all categories. This is only what I can think of
right now without taking a physical inventory.

I have waaaaaaaaay too many games i have not completed. Back in the
NES/genesis days I didn't buy a new game til i finished the one i was on
(plus being a fairly broke teenager didn't help either). Now i have
the money to buy games but i don't have the time to play them all...
ahhh i wish they was a way to have both the time and money...legally
hehe.
ART
One of these days I swear I'll finish Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
The constant loading pauses just bug me to death.
There's a bunch of others. mostly games I decided to abandon in favor of
newer games that I was more interested in.

Hmm...I haven't finished SUMMONER on the PS2. I've been watching too many DVDs
on my little spare time and I haven't had the chance to finish the game :=)
I also haven't finished ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK (N64) because I got so frustrated in one
area and I've been forgetting to pick it up :)

I've got dozens, if not hundreds, of games that I haven't "completed"

It's not worth it.
On the plus side, the game goes from easy to ungodly easy the closer
you get to the end, so loading is the only time consumption by the end.
> There's a bunch of others. mostly games I decided to abandon in favor of

Never finished Blaster Master after my mother turned off my NES while
I was fighting the next to the last boss...
I abandoned:
Beyond the Beyond (PSX) -- complete and utter waste of time, painful to
even play
The Mafat Conspiracy (NES) -- take Golgo 13, improve the graphics, and
remove most of the fun
I've most likely given up on:
Red Dog (DC) -- can't aim well enough with the stick for the level of
precision required
Castlevania (NES) -- you play it and figure out for yourself :p
Battletoads (NES) -- ditto the above... :)
I've been repeated sidetracked from, but swear I'll finish some day:
Phantasy Star 3-4 (Genesis)
Tales of Phantasia (Super Famicom)
I'm satisfied with the 'bad' ending on:
Clash at Demonhead (NES) -- (ending is determined by defusing a
bomb after the final boss, no skill required but I was
ungodly unlucky twice)
I'm sure there are others in there. :)
well, when i was able to get DC games for $5 - $20 a piece, i got many i
haven't gotten into yet. my list would be:
unfinished:
RE:code veronica
vanishing point (got it cheap)
ecco
sega gt
jet grind radio (great game, but my skating skills suck)
hidden and dangerous (pretty fun, but i only got so far before getting
distracted with other games)
space channel 5 (got to the last lv but never seem to get the rhythm right--i
could swear it's off by a split second)
mdk 2 (got it cheap)
banghio (fantasticly hard!!)
red dog (got it cheap)
revolt (got it cheap)
sword of berserk (got it cheap)
toy commander (got it cheap)
super magnetic neo (got it cheap)
seaman (my brother killed my first seaman :( i haven't had the heart to get
back into it again)
zombie revenge (i've tried, but i'm not good enough to finish this game yet)
completed:
sega marine fishing (all the extras found)
dynamite cop (hehe... no real challenge there!!)
blue stinger (i liked this one enough to play through 3 times)
shenmu (played through twice)
grandia 2
vigilante 8: second offense
wacky races
man... that's just my DC... i've got many on my psx and saturn i have yet to
finish... and with crazy taxi 2 , sonic adventure 2 and pso version 2 coming
soon... i better hold off from buying a new system...

Jackie Chan Stuntmaster
Um Jammer Lammy
Nintendo 64-
Bomberman 64
Donkey Kong 64
Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
Mario Golf
Micro Machines 64 Turbo
Perfect Dark (I'm half way through Special Agent)

PenPen TriIcelon
Power Stone (just the mini games...but my VMU batteries are dead...)
Sonic Shuffle
Tony Hawk Pro Skater (just gotta get the medal in the last level)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Zombie Revenge
My, that's quite a backlog. And that's not even counting the ones I haven't
touched yet.
I'm currently working on Pokemon Gold, Tony Hawk 1 and 2, Jet Grind Radio, and
Marvel Vs Capcom 2. As soon as I rehook up my N64 (I'm way too lazy) I'll
finish up Majora's Mask, and then move onto Lunar 2.

Barely played it
- F-Zero X
Reached the End but haven't quite "Collect'em All"
-Goldeneye
-Blast Corps
-Star Fox 64
Dreamcast:
Attempting to complete right now:
-Sword of Beserk
Reached the end, sort of:
-Resident Evil 2 (completed only one scenario)
Played extensively but didn't reach end:
-Zombie Revenge
-Seaman (died in an advanced state and I haven't started again)
Sort of played:
-Metropolis Street Racer
-Toy Commander
Played extensively but made zero progress since I'm not playing the
"tournament" mode:
-Daytona USA
Barely Played:

PSX:
Haven't played (but booted it up and fooled around with it just to make sure
the game work):
Lunar 2
Played but did not save where I left off near the beginning since my
character would be so screwed later on from my poor playing:
Silent Hill
Reached the end, sort of:
Parasite Eve (only completed first game)
Ridge Racer Type 4 (don't think I've raced under every team)
Saturn:
Played but stopped because of lack of time and relectuant to go back to it
now since I don't remember what I did in the game when I stopped (and I'm
very far into the game too):
Dragon Force (been over a year and I still haven't gone back to it, other
than boot up the disc months ago to see if my saves are still there on the
memory cart)
Played extensively but not really interested in completing:
Nights
I've been playing almost exclusively Dreamcast games lately. Being that
I'm up to about 80 games, there are a ton I haven't played through, but
I figure I'll list a few which I've made significant progress in and
would like to go back to at some point: (in no particular order, although
I'm entirely omitted standard fighters, racers and sports games, since
the question becomes so subjective with them)
Sword of the Berserk
Ecco
MDK2
Phantasy Star Online
Spiderman
Rent A Hero #1
The ones that stand out as having actually been beaten are:
Shenmue
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia II
Sonic Adventure
Rayman II
Tokyo Highway Battle
Jet Grind Radio
Blue Stinger
Games I've barely started but in a perfect world would go back to:
Soul Reaver
Chicken Run
Draconus
Maken X
Tony Hawk
Also, dishonorable mention for both Evolution 1 and 2 as having annoyed
me so much with the inordinately powerful last or next-to-last boss that
I never quite finished either.
Brian
But the good news is that I'm only 3 away from completing my Pokedex.

Back in the 2D days I didn't mind "finishing" games, since gameplay
depth wasn't vital and that was all I could hope to accomplish within
the confines of the game engine. These days, I don't "finish" games
so much as play them until I lose interest or play them until I have
to quit playing cold turkey for the sake of living a semi-normal life.

Think of it this way:
Gulty Gear is a game that can be beaten with each character in about
15 minutes. How much time you choose to invest in the game to do so
is up to you :)
SF Alpha 3 (PSX and DC) can be beaten in World tour mode with any
character on the hardest difficulty level. Do you have the patience
to put up with the lacking challenge?
Super Street Fighter II (SNES) can be beaten with any character on the
hardest difficulty level, to be sure, but can you handle a CPU
opponent in the Versus Mode with a 7-level handicap disparity?
Terrence Briggs, who still can't after all of these years
Peace to you...
You have Lunar Silver Star Story Complete for PSX? How long have you had it?
It was out of print for a while and hard to find now, unless you bought it
used.
Me, I have the original box unscathed (no price sticker have touched it nor
have the plastic hook been broken and used) and everything in it in small
sandwhich bags (without the plastic zippers or other rigid locking
mechanism). Trying to prevent the foil on the various item from peeling off.
:)
It's a rare game now so you should be able to sell it for a equal or a
higher price than you paid.
Eh, wasn't so rare to me when the game was new; I didn't see this rarity
thing coming...

I prefer manuals, since they allow me to experiment with the game
instead of following someone else's footsteps. It made Valkyrie

around with a few possible game paths.

It's Genki's take on Pokemon. The RPG mode lets you capture your
enemies (which have various strengths in four possible elemental
properties), mix and match their body parts for different abilities,
and have them fight for you.
There's not a lot in the way for FAQ info on the game, which leads me
to believe it wasn't that popular :)

Not for me. My Hollywood Video doesn't have it, and from what I've
heard the online element is the only thing worth playing for. As with
multiplayer modes that require a second human (unlike Perfect Dark or
SF Alpha 2 Gold), the one-player gaming experience is what I buy my
games for.
And before y'all plunk me as some kind of hermit, just know that my
friends aren't the gaming type. I learned that the hard way after
investing in a SNES multitap.
Peace to you...

I'm not meaning to diss you at all, I just think we have completely
different opinions of difficult. I game I consider difficult is Samba De
Amigo when you get to the Master Challenges...and I just think this is
because the controllers aren't perfect...I can do them just fine. Other
games I consider hard.....House of the Dead 2...still finished it and I
think it was just hard because of the guns not being perfect. Happy gaming.
-steven perry
Remember a two-player overhead shooter on the SNES by the name of
Firepower 2000? Even experts would be hard-pressed to make it past
the SECOND level without losing all of your lives, mostly because
dying meant taking on the unruly hordes without your powered-up
weapons. The Game Genie could effectively even up the odds.
In the case of Slave Zero, however, the issue may have been the choppy
framerate screwing up the control.

That begs a question: How many games in recent years could be
considered difficult in a FAIR way? As in, the control scheme is
workable and the game engine is generally bug-free, so the only thing
keeping the gamer from succeeding is a truly devious series of
challenges?
Terrence Briggs
I looked through my DC collection of 31 games and thought about all the
Playstatin, N64, and Saturn games I had owned....and truly...I don't see
anything there was was difficult. Maybe a few of them had some tough parts
to them...but none were impossible. Goldeneye was VERY hard in getting
everything in the game...I just though of that...but still I managed to do
it. Shadows of the Empire was also very difficult on Jedi level....but
again...I managed to do it. These two were probably some of the harder
games I've played in the last few years and still they were do-able. I
don't like games that are TOO hard...so this makes me happy :)
-steven perry
Other than 2D shooters and Ferrari F355 Challenge? Not many games I can
think of really.
Then again, 2D shooters have pretty much been the only genre that's ever
been truly difficult, at least on higher difficulties.

I found MDK2 to be quite difficult, almost entirely in a fair way. I
would also submit that HotD2 is a tough game even with a perfect light
gun (just try it in the arcade, the gun is much more accurate there,
and it's tough even on default difficulty). Also, there's a nice learning
curve there in that just surviving takes a lot less skill than, say,
rescuing all of the hostages. I think Zombie Revenge is awfully tough,
but to be honest I haven't played it enough to say for sure. I guess
F355 is in the same category. Oh, and Rally 2 was pretty damned tough.
Spent quite a while on it, and never made it past about the 4th season.
None of the other games I have strike me as consistently quite difficult,
although I did certainly run into trouble on parts of Sword of the Berserk,
and Spiderman.

> And this really counts as finished when you use a code??
Hey, I'm no expert gamer. Ever since the 32-bittters first showed up, ending
credits and such have been a rarity for me. So the emphatic answer is, "Heck
Yeah!" Expecially when you consider that in the case of Slave Zero, I
absolutely lucked into invincibility through some kinda random button
mashing during gameplay (I presume). Heck, I didn't even know that I was
invincible for a while until I happened to notice that my sorry butt wasn't
getting killed no matter how many times I got blasted (HA!). Talking about a
pleasant surprise. So yes, code or no code, finishing a game is the same for
me.

Oh yeah. SF64 can be a mutha at times. Wish I had a code for that one too.

Dood, Crash called for some *serious* platforming skillz in order to leave
that second island. Even some of the magazines complained of its difficulty,
so apparently, I wasn't alone in that. I didn't buy Crash2 as a protest to
the difficulty of #1, but it was said to have been toned down a bit, or at
least it would let you choose a different path if a level was too hard.
Crash1 was linear and stopped me about halfway through. so I didn't get my
money's worth at all, IMO.

No offense taken. You clearly have more gaming skills than me. I'd say
you've probably got more that 80-90% of the folks out there even. Ours is a
great hobby that just about anyone can get into and find some enjoyment
(frustration is also out there in adundant supply, ha!).
I've got one more to add to my "completed" list, as of today:
Silpheed: the lost planet -- Kicked the last space jellyfish butt this
evening. Thus, I was able to turn off my PS2 for the first time in about two
weeks (probably used another $5.00 in electricity keeping it on all that
time. This gaming *is* expensive!).

Haha, that's nothing! I've had you beat since this past holiday season. I
added 4 more pieces of electronics to my room, and I just recently got a second
computer to my house (so my dad can have his own) and DSL on the new one, so it
stays on almost all the time.
My room is cancer causing.
Congratulations :) Silpheed is one of the games I was very interested in
on PS2 and from seeing how much you seem to love it (as well as many
others), if I ever pick up a PS2 (likely) this will honestly be the first
game I buy (along with Xenosaga or Metal Gear Solid 2 or Final Fantasy X).
Happy gaming.

Battletoads also had some pretty tough parts.

Apparently you're no "gamer" at all, since what you're doing isn't even
playing.

If you're "playing" with an invincibility code, why bother to play a game at
all? You might as well be watching a movie, since there's no challenge left.
The anecdote about Slave Zero tells me though that you're most likely "Doug
Martin," the same person who started a long thread some time ago about how
every game should have selectable invincibility right in the option menu,
except now you're hiding behind a fake userid.
And I don't mind that you are disdainful of folks (like me) who like
invincibility codes and such. See, every person is entitled to his/her own
value system which determines whether or not they enjoy a particular
activity. I, for one, like to view a game's set of levels in their entirety.
I appreciate the creative design work and programming that developers put
into their creations and want to experience them in their entirety. But
since I don't have the dexterity and/or time to beat most games on 'hard',
or even sometimes 'normal' difficulty, a code comes in handy for me. There's
a lot of ego for some folks (that would probably be you again, I'm afraid)
to say they've beaten a game -- the more difficult the better. No problem
there as far as I'm concerned. But that's actually not why I play adventure
games and shooters (interestingly, I view sports games differently). In
effect, I view story-based games like The Bouncer, Resident Evil and the
like as a kind of "movie" -- albeit one that is much more interactive and
which typically lasts much longer than 110 minutes. Call it convergence, or
whatever. But to me, boss battles are obstacles to be overcome towards
realization of the real enjoyment -- story development. They are not the
reason for my enjoyment, but a potential impediment thereto.
Maybe I'm not the typical gamer, but I think you'd be surprised how many
other folks are out there that think along the same lines as I do in this
regard. Publishers are well-served to remember that there are far many more
casual, average-skilled players out there than hard-core experts. If gaming
is made "too difficult" as a norm, the hobby can be stigmatized and a
significant portion of the market will be put off by it, IMO.

Hell, that's the spirit. I wouldn't worry about what his definition of
a gamer is. Long as you get enjoyment out of it, that's all that
matters.

I wouldnt worry about what Ray says - if you get more enjoyment out of how you play the game, so be
it. I personally stopped using cheats to complete games part way through the 16-bit era. I dont
ever bother with them anymore, but that doesnt mean I deplore others who do like to use cheats. I
think people who regard themselves as superior to those who DO cheat are just stuck up. Using a
cheat in a multiplayer game however - that I dont agree with at all.
The only cheats I have liked recently, are those that you have to earn, like in Goldeneye or Perfect
Dark.
