WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE VR HEADSET? Wasn't it suppose to be out by
X-mas? I haven't heard any more chatter on the net or in Mags whats up?

It has been delayed until the Spring on 1994. Too bad, its an awesome system...
Sega delayed it because the third parties weren't as interested as Sega hoped
they'd be...

As far as Sega VR goes, I wouldn't touch it. Check out sci.virtual-worlds...
I have read reports that the manufacturers of the LCD screens that go into the
cheap Sega VR HMD (potentially) are VERY hesitant to sell them to Sega, because
they are scared of the legal implications caused by people having their vision
impared, falling over from dizziness, etc. If any of you have ever used the
VictorMaxx headgear, you probably noticed spacial disorientation and dizziness
afterwards. It says in the manual not to use it for more than 15 minutes at a
time. I heard of a guy here in Victoria that used it for 20-something minutes,
he couldn't read 9 point text for 15 minutes afterwards. It screws up your
focus. Also, it disorients you and SOME people are prone to falling over from
this disorientation...The same goes to a lesser degree with the Sega VR
(potentially). So SEGA is having a hard time just getting the parts.
That's why the software developers are shying away from it, they're equally
scared of the legal implicatons.
It's really disappointing, cause I've been waiting for it to come out
for a year. Oh well, I'll wait, my eyes are too important to me. I'm waiting
to see how good the Jaguar Virtual-Reality Gear is, it's supposed to be pretty
cool, and the Jag has built in modem support too eh, so you can potentially
have a VR-MUD with the Jag. I'm sure it's to come, but Sega will probably do
it first with Sega TV or the Edge16 4800bps modem...

Let
oops.
Let's hope that Sega can reengineer the HMD to get the confidence of the
Software developers. They're totally hyped about affordable VR, but not if
it's gonna cost them millions in insurance payouts...:(

Don't do cheap auto goals in NHL '9X Hockey!! Try learning to score COOL
goals!! It's far more enjoyable!! If you're into stats, play Poker.

We just got a christmas catalog from Sears or some other department store
(I can't recall which), and they were advertising the VR headset. They
said it wasn't out, but it's one of those buy now, get it later things
(layaway?). I thought it said it would be out at christmas, but I'm
probably mistaken. But who knows? Sonic III wasn't supposed to be out
until the Spring, and we've had posts that say it'll be out on Sonic Mania
Day (just a year after Sonic 2sday -- where's their clever name this year?).

Because I write for DYSTOPIA I have a few contacts at Sega... all who have told
me that the VR headset won't be available until this Spring...

Sega delayed it because this is going to be the biggestthing ever to hit the
video game market. They want a BIG entrance, and teh games they had wer'nt
giving them this BIG entrance...

It was rumored that the VR headset would be out by Christmas before Sega
delayed it... Sears probably had thier catalogue almost completed before the
rumor was even out about the system being delayed...

Alll that I know is that it won't be out until the Spring. I MAY be able to
get a per-release set and if I do, I'll post a review on teh `Net...

That's strange, I've seen the VR headset at one store that was selling it for $250.
I even got a look at the box that the headset came in.... I haven't had a chance to
actually see it in action, though. I'll see what I can find out...

But this wasn't SEGAs VR headset, was it ?

I saw one in a german magazine. They wrote this headset only works with
the *old* genesis/mega drive. And it also works with the snes..
Don't know if this true... It's not one of the magazines I would
count on.. (Video Games...)

So has anyone tried this? I too have seen the Victor Maxx one but not the one
from Sega. Anybody tried any of the headsets?

I believe that is another VR headset for both the SNES & Genesis,
which only has one LCD screen, and is really poor quality.

I've heard rumors that the reason for the Sega VR delay is because
of problems with eye strain! Can anyone else substanciate this?
I could just see it now, millions of kids sueing Sega over going
blind from their VR unit. :)

The VR headset I mentioned earlier (for $250) is not the Sega headset. It is not even a true VR
headset (just a non scrolling tv that sits real close to your eyes). The best indications
of the Sega VR headset release are early Spring.
