I have no problem with it at all. We play "real" hockey. We don't do
anything that wouldn't be done in a real game, like putting your player
on a certain spot and shooting it knowing it will go in. I guess you've
discovered that it isn't any fun to just exploit bugs in the game. Just
play by the spirit of the game. If you do, you'd find that the defense
and goaltending are hugely improved. In fact the gt is too good at time.
It's way too difficult to score on a penalty shot, that is if you do it
the way they do it in the real game (usually going full speed and trying
to put a move on the goalie). I've never had the computer score on a
penalty shot. I don't mind not being able to score on breakawyas during
a game, since there are still way too many breakaways, and if the conversion
rate was similar to the pros, the scores would be too high again.
It also bugs me, like someone else mentioned, how your computer teammates
don't play well offensively. If you're the center and charging towards
the goal, your wingers should generally head more towards their side of
the goal, so you can do the one-timers that the pros do, not having your
wings wandering around aimlessly, usually along the boards.
On a different note, what about the user-records screen. I've "hardly"
played it and I'm already over 100 games total. I guess I must have
played NHLPA '93 literally a thousand times. Anyone found the limit for
the Won/Loss records yet? Anyone played to a tie yet? What happens then?
Do both teams just sit there like they lost? We never had a tie game in
the '93 version.

NHL '94??? Are you sure your playing the right game...
With no goalies for ten or twenty minute periods maybe...
I have to call bullshit on this...

This must be from the person who also hit 800 db on the crowd meter! :^)

I have to agree. My record is 32 goals using the Eastern All Stars vs.
Anaheim (I know, that borders on cruelty to animals, but what the hey...)
using 20 minute periods. I usually play using Boston or Toronto, and
can usually score an average of 3 to 5 goals per ten minute period,
depending on the opponent.
I've never managed to get more than 75 shots on
goal during a game, so that makes the 70 goal plateau a bit unrealistic
to me (assuming it was against the computer-- against some lame opponent
might be another story). I find the computer remarkably tough sometimes,
especially when they are Montreal. I find the Islanders one of the
easiest teams to beat, as the Computer version of Glen Healy is
attrocious. I find Roy to be the toughest goalie to score on (even
tougher thean Belfour, who is rated a bit higher).

I played as Boston against the Islanders for 20 min. periods at home.
I won 25-5. And my crowd meter went to 134dB. This is not s a joke.
I previously had a record of 131dB which resulted from a REAL close
overtime win against All-Star East. But this time, a real high score
seemed to have been the cause of the 134dB. Since then, I haven't come
that close.

Use the AS West (home) and body check people as much as you can. Preferably
play against a team like San Jose or Anahiem. If you are a skillfull
bodychecker you should be able to easily get over 140db. My record is 164db
(no joke!) Just playing a regular 10 min. game with one of my favorite
teams (Chi., Philly, Winnipeg) I have gotten 134db.
Remember, the secret is body checking as much as you can (even/especially
after the whistle).

I played as San Jose Sharks in the playoffs, conference finals against
Vancouver, 20 min. periods, in Vancouver. I won 28-2. The crowd meter
got to 120dB. Falloon had 7 goals (my one-player record) and five guys
(incl. Falloon) on my Sharks had at least a hat trick. (Auto line
changes on.)
In the finals, against Montreal, Sharks won 17-13 (Montreal is GOOD on
here). The crowd got to 126dB, which is my league record. Scores and
dB's not a joke!!

I know this is a partial Sega/IBM question, but please forgive me.
My brother has NHL93 and 94 for Sega, but unfortunately, its at home. I have
a PC with me at school. I've been considering getting NHL for the IBM. I
was just wondering if anybody who has played BOTH versions can compare the
two. What i'm really wondering about is if the IBM version has a crowd meter
a la Sega. I'm looking forward to playing at home during Thanksgiving break,
but I would also like to have NHL on the computer to play here at school, and
maybe even set up a league. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My record for one player in a game (5 minute periods) is 13 by Dino
Cicarelli vs. Calgary. And, he even had a penalty during the game,
so he scored a goal a minute for the whole time he was on the ice.
