Well, I've had great luck with my Japanese DC. With that said, the US one is
giving me all hell! It comes in the form of Ready 2 Rumble's audio. The
music is fine at first, but when it starts over it skips like MAD. Well, I
took it into Funcoland (where I got it) and asked to play R2R in one of the
machines they had. It skipped on that one too! So I got a brand new R2R!
ah... all better right? WRONG. That copy skipped as well, so I got a NEW DC.
THE DAMN GAME STILL SKIPS!!!!! So either there are a lot of crappy DCs out
there that won't play R2R's music or R2R's first batch of games suck. What's
going on?!!?

I'm having the exact same problem with R2R that you describe. Looks like a
bad run of discs, because my other games work fine.

Sounds like a major programming bug slipped by
Midway's 'quality control.' I can't imagine any of these
problems being traced to either a defective console
or defective pressing, since every other aspect of the
game works properly (e.g. loads animation data, etc.
without crashing the console). This seems to be
supported by my experience with the demo disc.
Every single demo plays fine, except for R2R (sound
dropouts galore).

My question is why didn't any of these so called expert reviewers from all of
the gaming magazines ever catch these errors??? Evidentally they weren't
playing the final release copies of any of these games...

Thank God! I just got Sega Football... WOW is that game bad ass! And NO
sound problems either. All other games run fine, but this one's no good.
Guess I'll have to wait until another shipment of R2Rs come through before I
return it? Oh well, thanks for the reply.

Because every game mag and web reviewer I've read have reviewed the
import versions of the games, NOT the U.S. releases...the U.S. releases
were frantically still being worked on/manufactured/distributed at the
time of the reviews.

I had the same problem. Booted up my machine
four times with no change. Then, for some reason,
the R2R demo problem just disappeared and hasn't
returned since. I fiddled with the setup menu,
changed a few settings, disabled the automatic
detection feature, let my DC charge up its internal
battery, etc. Now everythings running smooth as silk.

Just to add a bit of flavour to this, I had the same problem with the
DEMO of Ready 2 Rumble - first time loading it at that. Didn't make
a good impression...

I've gone through seven copies of R2R and still have not found one that plays
correctly. The first two I got would not load, after that all the others lock
up in arcade mode. Championship mode seems fine, but the sound is screwed up in
the Training mode. Sega has already admitted a bad pressing, but there is now
way to tell what copies are affected until you try them. Soul Calibur and NFL
2K work fine, but at one time in NFL 2K, the sound only goes to my left
speaker. I think that is a mastering error and not a problem with the disc. As
soon as you leave that menu, sound returns to stereo.
