Try Tronix. Its a mail order firm based in New York. I am not sure of the
e-mail address but I know I read there thru Dustin's Web page which is
http://osf1.gmu.edu/~rcushman

He has a link that can take you there or to another electronic mail order firm.

Locally I've seen it at two places . . Electronics Boutiques (but they had
only one which was sold before they got it) and Video Game Exchange. I
ended up ordering it from Joe C. at Tronix. It's in New York. If you need
the phone number, let me know. BTW, Tronix has the lowest price for
Mystaria ($62) :D

I've been having the same trouble finding Mystaria, until i stopped in Best Buy
tonight. They've got it for $62 as well--a nice improvement over Babbage's
projected $74.99. The game so far (less than 10 minutes into it :) is pretty
good, decent graphics, good music, interesting spells. Looks like a worthy
title.

i have a theory :)
for every fantastic RPG like the Final Fantasy series or the Phantasy Star
series, there are plenty of clunkers like Lagoon or Traysia (which actually
wasn't that bad but sold terribly). the big companies were very hesitant to
buy RPGs in large lots 'cuz they never sold well, but as the months went on,
people started to shift their tastes and buy more of 'em. of course, the
players generally know which games are worth the exorbitant price often charged
for RPGs. therefore games like FF3 fly off the shelves while games like Lagoon
are relegated to the $9.99 bin in less than a month. These conflicting signals
confuse buyers, who generally wouldn't know a good game if it infected their
spleen, so they often make mistakes. the best thing to do in this instance is
to pester your local software store about upcoming RPGs that you'd like to see,
put your name on the waiting list for 'em, and this will send a pretty clear
message to the higher-ups about what we want.

And it's worth noting that this is a big difference between the CD
industry and the cartridge industry.
The setup costs for running a batch of cartridges are very high. So,
even if a manufacturer only has 20000 orders for a particular game, they
may still decide to run 30000 or 40000 cartridges instead--so they'll have
enough to cover future orders, without having to pay the setup costs
again.
In contrast, the setup costs for running a batch of CDs are quite
low. So it becomes much more economical to run a relatively small batch
of CDs to fill the initial orders and "test the waters", then wait and see
the market response before pressing additional CDs to meet future demand.
(For the consumer, this may have one unfortunate side effect. If a
manufacturer produces too many games and nobody wants to buy them, they're
likely to slash the price, often radically--after all, selling the games
for just about any amount of money is better than just having them take up
space in warehouses for years. So the consumer winds up getting a
bargain. With CD games, where the pressings can be smaller and therefore
the excess inventory problem can be avoided, the incentive to
bargain-basement the games may drop as well. (Of course, manufacturers
will still probably discount their older games--after all, the costs of
producing the game have presumably already been covered, so any money they
can make by selling the game [even at a lower price] is gravy. And, with
the reduced setup and pressing costs of CDs, it becomes a lot more
economical to run off new batches of older games for discount sales.)

Actually, it is a Copyright problem. The name Mystaria is under
copyright of TSR. Sega did not realize this, and so they have had to
stop shipping it until the problem is solved. That could take years.
So if you already have it, you should feel lucky.

The new release date seems to be Jan. 30/Feb 1, so hopefully it was just
a matter of greasing some plams by Sega.

I managed to pick up the game last week. In order to do so, I had to
call 30 stores in Southern California, visit 4 malls, and drive about 35 miles
before I found a copy. And it was the next to last one.... (:
Well, I'm sure Sega and TSR can work around the title. Besides, if you take
the whole name, you might be able get around the copyright problem...

Well, if you haven' got it yet, chances are you won't. The game was
accidently released to retailers, and has been called for a re-release
sometime in early-February. Trust me though, the wait will be well
worth it. The game is awesome!
