Is NHL2K as bad as some sites lead it to be?

You have to consider the source of the poor reviews.....Gamefan and Daily
Radar. Probably 2 of the lamest sites out there. I think Gamefan reviewed
the Beta version and the DR reviewer probably played the thing on rookie
setting and isn't much of a Hockey fan anyway. Quote: "The game's poor AI is
indicative of its general regard for the strategy of hockey, which is to say
it doesn't have much."
Now does that sound like a fan of the game?

There was another article at DR about how at the All Star game there was a
mini-expo showcasing all of the console hockey games available and NHL2k was
by FAR the fan favorite. They said that 80% of the people playing it had
held off from buying a DC until they played the game. 90% of them said the
game was great and that they are now getting a DC. They said that although
the game was not as ladened with options as EA, the gameplay was like
nothing they have ever played before. Also, the fighting is incredible, not
just button mashing but actual strategy. I don't know about all of you, but
I will go by what a consumer says about a game over a reviewer any day.

I am sure it will not be a *perfect* game, but sheesh let's all wait and
see.

It might. However, it does sound like some awesomely bad grammar
and/or unclear thinking.

IGN just posted a more objective review of the game. I suggest you read it.
In a nutshell, the GAMEPLAY and GRAPHICS are fantastic while the options are
very thin and will probably piss some people off. Personally I agree with
you. Give me a solid, fun and exciting game and to hell with the bells and
whistles. Hey, I would rather have that game sans a few options rather than
waiting another YEAR to play DC hockey. AND I would much rather have all of
the old Jerseys than play with international teams any day. I cannot wait to
don an old North Stars jersey and whup the Blackhawks. Cannot WAIT!!!!

One thing I was disappointed reading was the omission of not having combined
statistical league info. Apparently if you're playing a season, you're not
able to track how your players are doing against others in the league. You
only get to see the stats within the team that the player is in. For a
hockey fan, this is a MUST! It also takes away from the fun of going the
distance through a season. Just my thoughts.

Same here.. IF the gameplay lives up to what I'm hoping for, I can forgive
the other omissions.. I've been waiting a long time for a realistic hockey
game that REWARDS those players that know the strategies, rather than an all
out check-fest and constant breakaways/odd mans..

Still, two reviews.. I'd like to believe IGN about the play (I tend to give
them a little more credit). But I doubt there are many with a scrutinizing
eye like me when it comes to hockey games.. I'll have to wait and see I
guess. HOPING..

NHL2k 2day????
