Why is that soooooo many dreamcast games have jerky frame rates??? The
last two games I rented out all had unsteady frame rates that annoyed
the shit out of me (MDK 2, Rainbow Six)!!! I'm getting sick of this!

Although it's not really a problem,
you can get some massive slowdown
going in MvC2. Once we actually
thought the game had froze.

The nigh-game freezing moment was
CapCom vs CapCom. My opponent
did a Captain Sword which I blocked
on the ground at full screen, and I
responded with a Captain Storm.
Right after I entered the super, the
game sat there for about 5 seconds\
and then moved on at full speed.

The Captain Sword is pretty good
at causing slowdown in general.
Having a team of 3 CapCom's
and doing their triple team against
anyone big usually does it.

Or also having two triple teams going
at once also does it, depending on
the supers. I said its not a problem
because you pretty much have to sit
there with a friend and just look for
them in training mode. And when it
does happen in actual play it's always
supers, and so there's little fear of
your timing being thrown off.

The arcade slowed down at times too...or so I was told. But it
rarely happened...prob during some super extreme combos or something

MDK2's frame rate was fine (except for particles)... Rainbow Six used
WinCE... so that's the problem with that game.

I still don't get how Sonic Adventure is still the best looking Dreamcast
game... and it came out in 1998. Plus it rarely slows down besides Final Egg
and Red Mountain.

You're blaming Sega for third party games having slowdown? Granted, there
are plenty of Sega's own games with slowdown and jerky frame rates, but you
can't hold them responsible for Interplay or Majesco games.

Frame rates, IMO, just depend on the talent and dedication of the
developers. I've yet to see a Capcom DC game with any real slowdown
problems, and of course there's Soul Calibur, DOA 2, etc. Lots of Sega's
own games have no slowdown either, though some of them do. Developers just
need to learn how to optimize their games to get the best tradeoff between
visual quality and speed. Some do it better than others.

Where, exactly? I've played this game and didn't see any slowdown while I
was playing.

Sonic really needs to be 60 fps with the speed it moves at...the BG
strobes waaaaay too much. I'm cool with Fur Fighters being 30 since its
pace is slower (but 60 would have been better...hehe)

Sonic is 30fps?

Personally, I thought Hydro Thunder offers the best graphix on DC with
silky smooth framerate. As for 2D, Street Fighter 3 W:Impact is the best.
btw, i am talking about the u.s. releases. As for Japanese release, I
think Bangaioh is the best 2D looking game.

Yeah, I noticed some slowdown in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as well,
mostly when you cancel one hyper combo out with another. Of
course, let's face it, so much can be going on when you do this
that you can hardly blame the Dreamcast for chugging a bit. I'm
kind of wondering what would happen if you selected three team
members with hyper combos that flood the screen with
projectiles, then performed them all by cancelling into each
team member's flood attack. Most hyper combo cancels stop the
character's attack entirely, but if, say, Strider performs
Legion and unleashes two dozen mechanical animals, those animals
will stay onscreen even when you cancel the hyper combo and
perform someone else's attack.

Actually that's intentional. The engine allows the incoming
character to go through their start up
animations first then the game proceeds with the super.
Otherwise, almost no DHC's would combo.
