With all the talk about the new system and it's 3,000,000 polygons per
second. I have not seen anything about it's 2D processor?

Just quoting some info i've seen on all the Dreamcast sites from Yu
Suzuki... the Dreamcast can do 2-D amazingly well, simply by setting the
z-buffer to zero. This reders all polygons as flat, the same distance away
from the screen. This makes 2-D very possible on the dreamcast and very
possible to do well. No worries...

Simple. It's got it. Besides, at worst (best?) you free up the Z-dimension enabling for even more 2D
power! Mwhahaha!

Nice in theory, but does even the DC have enough processing power to
fully replace the high detailed sprites used in games like Pocket Fighter
or Vampire Savior? Unless there's some hardware to assist in 2D, it may
be as difficult to get out of the DC as decent 3D was on the Saturn.
(Possible with a lot of work, but usually done with low detail instead.)
I'd love to be proven wrong on this though.

To the best of my understanding, each sprite would be a single polygon
with an animated, partially transparent texture. I see no reason at all
why it wouldn't be able to blow away any 2D you've seen at home thus far.
