Just wondering how crowded the average VF3 machine seems to be. I only
know of one within a 30-mile radius (Sun Valley Mall in Concord, CA), and
I have NEVER seen anyone playing it but myself. I think I've had about
three matches against another human in the three weeks it's been there.
Is this typical? I'm getting bored!

Here in Vancouver, I dunno how it is; I've been unable to go VFing
for a while. Discussion in rgva goes on, of course.

A growing portion of arcade-going America is getting Netted... try
printing out a bunch of large, easy-to-read URLs on a sheet of paper and
taping it on the machine. (perhaps with note-sized scraps for people to
take home with smaller print of the same URLs)

I would suggest for starters (probably other good sites around):

http://www.vfhome.com/
http://www.ecf.toronto.edu/~chubb/
http://shell.idt.net/~edlc19/vf3a.htm
http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~andrewc/vf3/vf3intro.txt

They all have lots of info that frankly, isn't available in *any*
English print source... sadly.

followups to rgva.

I think you have to become a wandering Virtua Fighter (like the Wandering
Swordsman of legends :)

Check out the VF3 location list to see any near to you. Check it out for
challengers and rate them. If they are good make that your frequent place.

For VF3, you just have hunt for the places with the heaviest action. In
other words, find challengers (and eventually fame or complete
humiliation) to practice.

Well, out here in Okemos, Michigan, there's a VF3 in the mall's
Aladdin's Castle (yes, the Namco-owned chain. Surprising, isn't it?)
Typically, it's usually available for play. This arcade consists
mostly of kids that their parents dropped off for the machines to
"babysit". While my friend and I play, there's usually at least 2 or
3 adults that walk by and gawk at how good the game looks, but there
are very few people who join in (and no, I am not a good VF3 player.
Competent, but not good). The people who do join in are usually
old-school Lion players that used to cheese at VF2
(trip,trip,jump,trip,trip,jump...).

The game is fairly expensive (75 cents per play, 50 to continue), and
a bit intimidating if you don't know VF that well (this unit's been
running for about 2 1/2 months, so it's starting to pick up some
pretty nasty patterns). Still, if there's any decent players in the
Lansing/Okemos area, I usually play there on Fridays and Sundays.

I don't know about you guys, but VF3 here in Austin, TX costs a $1,
that's a lot just to get your butt kicked in a few minutes...

It costs $1 to play VF3 and $0.75 just to continue. That is one hell of
a rip off. If I released a cool game, I'd only let $0.25 or less be
charged to play it.

I guess I'm lucky. The arcade I go to is .50 cent to start and .50 to
continue. Helps stretch the ol' pocket book.

The arcade in the Forest Fair Mall in Fairview, OH has one, and it is
hardly ever played. For one thing, it's too damn expensive ($1 and 75c
to replay). That sucks for a fighting game, great graphics or not.
Second thing, it is too fuckin' hard. If there is a diff. setting in
that machine, it's def. on hard. I'm not an expert, but I'm a competent
VF2 player, and I'm lucky if I last through 4 fighters. And if I use a
char. I'm not familar with, sometimes I lose during the first round.
That is not fair, I don't suck that bad! $1 is too much to pay for about
20 secs of nothing. I'm getting pissed just thinking about it.
I was looking foward to this game like no other, and now after playing,
I could give a shit. Oh well, a nice looking game that nobody plays.
Maybe after the Saturn ver. comes out and I learn the moves, then $1
might last me more than a few secs of disgrace.

Same thing at the arcade I play at too. Against the computer, it's
on best of 3, then on vs., it's best of 5. Also on Saturday mornings,
they have a token special, like 35 tokens for $5, so I go and play
VF3 at that time.

But what sucks is that they replaced the big-screen surround-sound VF3
machine with a smaller screen version...well, at least the game's cheaper
to play so I'm not really complaining...but I don't play that often,
since the arcade is ~25 minutes away...I could go to Sega City of Irvine
(which is 5 minutes away) but play the darn game for 5 tokens...hell's
no!

Wanna hear something way cool? In Casino Niagra (niagra Falls, CA) there
is a VF3 game there. One 'loonie' gets *2* plays, thats $1 *canadian*
for *2* games. You heard right, less than .40 US a game (same continue cost).
And we're talking big screen cabinet, the works. Also Manx (which I suck at)
and Gunblade is there. Along with the great Daytona. Plus an addition I like
is the fact vs matches go to 3 wins instead of 2 (best of *5* instead of best
of *3*). Figthing on the raft, up an incline.. too crazy/wild!

Its a nice break between some heavy blackjack..

Where I live (NYC) they have an arcade with VF3 for 50c and same to
continue. The difficulty was pretty easy, I could play for about 10
minutes before continuing (maybe im just good!). I always see people
playing it and the only time I got to play 1 players is when I went the
minute the arcade opened (at 9 o'clock in the morning).
