I'm really excited...its coming on thursday.

I have heard..pretty good graphics...lots of stats..create-a-player..or
a team (oh yeah! =) Can't do that with any 32 bit basketball games)
and...the game is supposed to be pretty fun.

NBA ACTION joining the great NBA LIVE 96 for playstation june 6th (How
come I don't have shoot-out..STATS..OPTIONS...GAMEPLAY ;)

Yes, I have seen this one now. Wow, is it fast! Options galore, too.
As for the 'poor' graphics, what? After I saw the first replay dunk, I
had to see more. In case you haven't, try this : pause the game, go to
the instant replay option, choose free camera, then move the camera way
in. Not only are the faces digitized, but the jerseys have the actual
logos, player's number, and players NAME on the jersey back (ie, Kemp,
Pippen, etc.)! If that's not detailed graphics then what do you want?
The replay moved so smoothly even zoomed in close that I can't help but
wonder if there might be a secret play camera for up close (well, I can
hope, can't I?). The role-playing mode would be perfect, imagine
playing from right behind your player the whole game! If it's not in
there, it should be. The sounds are really great, too--Marv Albert
calling the game/names and the crowd chanting the team name, too.
We've come a long way from the static noise used in the past. I was
skeptical about the 'real' digitized faces until I zoomed in on Scottie
Pippen. There is no mistaking his eyebrow up. Take a look and decide
for yourself!
The gameplay is really great. There is actually defense in this game.
I mean, the first time one of my team's cpu players blocked a shot, I
had to go to replay to check for myself. No more free trips thru the
lane, you can block shots with enough consistency for it to be
important to take other shots, not just dunks or threes, which can be
swatted back in your face, too. I loved the first time the computer
ran a play to beat me to the basket and not just having a cpu opponent
that can drive or fire a shot from anywhere. The cpu isn't perfect but
more advanced than other games. Besides, you can play with 10 players,
wholly smokes! I am just looking forward to five! BTW, I saw at
Blockbuster they have these generic Saturn pads for $12. I can't say
how good they are but how often do you need more than 4 anyways? These
would make good extras since you can get 3 for the price of a Sega one
around here. Back to the gameplay--someone in this group was
complaining about the freethrow mechanism. I thought so at first, too,
but then by accident I discovered you can actually adjust for an 'off'
horizontal with an 'off' vertical. If you get both x & y dead center
you get nothing but cord--hit slightly off of the x, try going a little
high on the y and you can rim it in. Well, seemed new to me, anyways.
Oh, Jordan, Shaq, etc are in the game, already rated and in the lineup.
For example, Jordan is listed as Roster Guard #99 for the Bulls. It
would be easy to finish up with the create player and make him correct.
His stats are in there already. I played against him (as Roster Guard)
and he is for real. A clever idea for getting the stats into the game.
I noticed a lot of little details in the player's animations as I
played--bounce passes, behind the back passes, baseball passes,
crossover dribble, spins, leaning/fading jumpshots, postup manuevers,
guys getting knocked down, missed dunks/alley oops, and best of all
most (or all) seem to be under your control. I think the most
impressive thing the cpu did to me was a 2 on 1 fast break between
Pippen and Roster Guard/Jordan. They passed it back and forth several
times as they closed in from my left and right. It all happened so
fast that I just had to see the replay (did I mention this game is
fast?). I have never been 2-on-1 fast breaked that effectively in
videogame basketball (like NBA Live) except when playing vs. 2 human
players. They really dished it back and forth and then alley oop
slammed it.
I don't know about you, but I really want this game. After playing it
today, it has moved up to the #1 game that I want, pushing everything
else to second. I love 16-bit NBA Live but this game isn't just better
looking, it actually outplays it and outraces it.

PS - yes, I have played PSX NBA Live and NBA Shootout, too. NBA
Shootout still has 'better' graphics but is too slow, amongst other
things. Besides, I don't even own a PSX!

Your right, the looks aren't ALL THAT but the game spped and the control
and the STATS make this the best b-ball game ever. Plus, you must admit
the digitalized faces in the dunk replays is amazing. If all you like is
eye-candy then get shootout because that is all it is, but if you like a
great b-ball sim with decent graphics and a truckload of options then get
NBA Action. Grey Matter did okay this time. Right now, I can say that
this is my favorite game to play and it has most definitely made me
believe in my Saturn purchase which I was worried about for a while (good
games, but the no sports was killing me, not that I have one and Powerplay
is next week making it so I have 2, life is good!).

They call me SUN
