Question 1--Yes.

Question 2--I don't know. Haven't had anyone around to try it with. :(
And the demo doesn't show 2 player. The way the game works though, the
answer is probably no.

Yes!! It is 2 players (maybe I should try the multitap and see if I can get
more?). And unlike ThunderForce V it isn't compatible with the analog pad.
DAMN!!

'd like to try 2 players...I wonder if the enemy difficulty is any different
when in 2 player mode. I'm kinda thinking that there might be worse slowdown
in some areas, however.

No doubt if you both fire your "mega-weapon" at the same time, or use the
(yellow) homing shot with a lot else going on.

Actually there isn't really any extra slowdown with two players. A good
friend and I had a blast in arcade mode. If you haven't played with a partner
yet then you haven't experienced the chaos this game has to offer.
