I have just realized that Game Players is probably the only mag that
knows what system to follow. And of course, it's the Saturn. In the
last few issues they have talked about how the Saturn will come back
in a big way, and they are rigt on the button. In their holiday
issue, they had awards and here they are (Saturn winners only):

Game of The Year : VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 (Saturn)
Best Saturn Game: VIRTUA FIGHTER 2
runners up:
Daytona USA
World Series Baseball
Wing Arms
Best Fighting Game: VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 (Saturn)
Best Sports Game: WORLD SERIES BASEBALL (Saturn)
Best Shooter: VIRTUA COP (Saturn)

(Technical Awards)
Best Graphics (32-bit) VIRTAU FIGHTER 2 (Saturn)
Best Intro Sequence PANZER DRAGOON (Saturn)

This is by far the most honest review of award winning games. No
Twisted Metal winning game of the year here. Nope, a truly great game
won instead. I think I'll stop reading Sony Generation and start
reading Sega Players. Since evryones biased, why can't I be??

Dan.

Just curious... it seems that a lot of magazines favor the PSX, correct?
Well, maybe because it's a better system. If they believe that a system is
better, then they have the right to favor that system... because it is indeed
better.

wow! i'm impressed. i'm glad to see that there are respectable people
in the world that can see that vf2 is a game that is unmatched and NOT
BE AFRAID TO SAY IT. they really have shaped up in the past two years.
now they just gotta increase their age audience!

That's assuming that magazine writers are knowledgable enough about video
games to determine which system is better. However, most of them
apparently are not.
Many of these mags seemed to base their opinion of the future of the video
game industry on the first generation games for each system. This is a
very stupid thing to do, but many of them did it anyways. As an example,
DHGF declared that the Playstation was three times more powerful than the
Saturn, but todays games don't show that. They also used DAYTONA to judge
the maximum potential of the Saturn (only months newer than the Saturn
itself), even though they constantly admit to wrongly judging the limits of
the 6 year old Genesis.
In short, they swallowed the hype and made an uneducated guess.

Things aren't any better on the PSX, in fact they're worse. IMO there are
a total of 3 games worth buying that aren't available on both Saturn and
PSX: wipEout, Warhawk, and Tekken. Gameday is okay but it looks like QB
Club and Madden are going to be quite a bit better. Both systems aren't
exactly overflowing with must-have titles, but IMO the software selection
for the Saturn will be significantly better than the Playstation's this
Christmas.

World Series Baseball is the best Sports title out, Panzer Dragoon
competes with any PSX title in Graphics, along with all the games the
other guy said, the Saturn has a good library of hits. The only bad thing
about this is they are all SEGA GAMES. No good Third Party Titles. "Yet"

Do you own a copy of VF2? And yes, VF2 is a great game, I'm sure. But the
fact is, if Sega Rally, Virtua Cop, VF2, and Daytona are the only good games
that you have, then how great is the Saturn? The PSX has a wide selection of
different type of games.

It depends on what you like. They aren't the ONLY good games on the
Saturn. Add to the list World Series Baseball, NHL All-Star Hockey,
Shinobi Legions, Virtua Racing, Rayman, Astal, and to me (my opinion),
Cyber Speedway and Virtual Hydalide.

Again, it depends on your taste. For me, the Saturn has a wide selection
of games too. I don't go along in lockstep with everyone else and
dislike games because the majority does. Maybe if EVERYONE did that,
then we wouldn't have these stupid discussions.

What about Mysteria,shinning wisdom,blue seed,rayearth,legend of
thor,x-men,dragon force,DBZ,wingarms,king of fighters '95,and all the
working design titles comming out. That's just to name a few.

oh yeah,I like the wide selection of flying and driving games that I
can get for the PSX.Oh...and a couple of fighters. What no RPGs and
adventure games? What about some platform games?Hmm..thats a good "WIDE
SELECTION OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF GAMES." To me it seem like the Saturn
has a more variety of games than the PSX(IMHO).I own both systems and
think that my saturn will bring me more gaming pleasure than my PSX.

The mags get games a couple months before we do.

Plus the fact that nearly all the good PSX titles are appearing on
Saturn anyway.

Wait a minute. If a magazine favors a system, it doesn't mean that it is
'biased,' 'biased' would be if, say, they owned 50% of the company. (Which
applies to some mags, but...) The editors merely find that these systems suit
their tastes.
