Those are some sweet looking screenshots. Its a bummer that we have to
wait another full year to play the next Zelda, Mario and Metroid.

Nintendo said they were not trying to mislead people and that
they are only [real time rendered] tech-demos.
So we'll have to wait until next years E3 before we see any
games. I don't think they'll be too far off the mark though.
Why would Retro Studios be developing a Metroid tech demo? It's Metroid Cubed,
baby!

he'd turnover in his grave! Either get Nintendo's EAD to do Metroid or
don't do it at all!
Other Metroid fans knows what's up -- Speak your peace!
Yokoi-san has passed away. Come on, we've got to move on, too. Retro Studios is
a good game maker, and while I can guarantee this metroid is going to be a heck
of a lot different than the previous ones (just as TLoZ:TOoT was different from
Zelda III, IV, and I), I say let's see what Retro can do, eh? Metroid wasn't
very popular in Japan -- in the US it was a hit. It makes sense for NoA and it's
2nd party, Retro Studios to work on the new game, especially since Yokoi-san
isn't around any more, in Japan or in the US.

Ah good. We're getting Turok the Metroid Hunter...
> Ah good. We're getting Turok the Metroid Hunter...
As long as it doesn't control like Turok, I'll be happy. Joysticks are
for movement, a simple concept really.
That said, the pict with all the alien things looks quite impressive...
and if all those aliens are attacking at once, it's going to be one
intense game.

That'd still be counterintuiative for Metroid style exploration. Doom
style wandering like Zelda OOT's enough to make my blood run cold.

Joe, you didn't like the way Zelda controlled? How about Goldeneye?
Torajima
It controlled fine. It was the later level design that was dull IMO.
Find the key to open the door puzzles simply should never ever be used.
(Part of what made Metroid so great. ;)
I don't know how well stuff like the energy tether or the wall jump
moves would work in 3d though.
>How about Goldeneye?
Never played it.
You fellers are truly mad. I use Turok-style controls in PD (setup 1.2), and
they are far superior to the default crap (use the C buttons to look up and
down, crap...). The Turok controls are like using the keyboard and mouse in a
Quake-type game. The mouse is the joystick and the keyboard is the rest.
Zelda controls were the best I've seen for a platformer. Being able to
instantly turn around and see ahead of you was great, as was the lockon/strafe
ability.

Sorry, but console games shouldn't control like PC games, IMO. The only
reason PC games default to using a mouse and keyboard is because PCs
don't come with a joystick.

... ever talk to the GOOD quake players? They use keyboard and mouse. Why?
Because the Mouse gives a FAR better control of aiming than digital keys or
buttons ever could. The analog stick is the best approximation to that
available on the console.
Ive seen some good FPS players use a dpad, because honestly it isn't too
differant from using the keys on the keyboard. At that point it is only a
matter of what feels good to the player. There is certainly nothing wrong
with using the keyboard, but in more involved games they offer much more
flexibility.

No, because joysticks SUCK for FPS. Try hooking up one of those N64
controller clones for PC and play against a mouse/keybaord player in
Quake/UT. It wouldn't be pretty.

I'd argue that dual analog sticks (such as the dualshock controller)
offer much better control than a keyboard and mouse.
But my biggest problem with Turok is they didn't even give gamers a
choice. If you want to control with keys and aim with the analog stick,
fine. But I want to move with the stick... I simply think it's more
intuitive.
