Well, now that we have Unrea... Oops, Metroid on the way, who wants to take
bets on how much it'll suck? It's clearly totally divergant from everything
that made the past Metroid games worth playing.

Bring it on. Just don't ever call it Metroid again.

My, now your able to tell if a game will be good, at LEAST 6 months before it
ships and with what appears to be only demo footage? You gotta respect the
hell out of someone with that kind of power.

So far I'm impressed but disappointed with what Nintendo has presented so far.
The playable games :Starfox, Wave Race, Rogue Squadron have really impressed
me. I dont like the number of games that appear to only be in demo form.

Well, it may be a premature judgment, but there has been A LOT of talk about
the trouble they've been having with this game. It's my understanding that
they only reason that it even is a first person game is because that's the
only way they could get it to not suck. I wouldn't be surprised if it
totally changes between now and release. On the bright side, Nintendo would
never release a game unless they loved it, so chances are, whatever form
this game comes out in, it will be fairly solid.

Ja. I believe that Retro stated that there would be both third and first
person segments in the game. I'm not sure how that's supposed to work --
I'm not sure anyone knows how that's supposed to work -- and that's what
I think the biggest hurdle is: getting Metroid into a third/first person
game. I'm not going to make any real judgement on it until we see
previewable/playable demos, though.

Best,

I was hoping it would be a faithful 2D adventure like its predecessors, just
would a lot more color and sprites + animated cutscenes, kind of like
Megaman on the PSX except with more exploration.

But a few years ago, I was skeptical when I learned Mario and Zelda would be
made into 3d games, and they turned out to two of the best games I've ever
played, so if it's from Nintendo, it's possible. :)

Man, I bet the game ending is predictable. Samus destroys Mother Brain,
throws off her armor for no reason, and you get to see . . . oh my god,
Samus is a female!! :) Except this time, in 3d . . .

Megaman Legends, I feel, was a great 3D platformer game. The only 2D->3D
conversion I've liked, actually.

Then again, Metroid 4 (GBA) should be very neat!

I'm not a fan of eiter Mario 64 or the N64 Zelda games. But Paper Mario is
great. =)

If they started the game that way, I'm sure it would sell millions. Just look at
the Tomb Raider series. =)

but the big difference is that when those games made the jump to 3D they were
still developed by Nintendo, Metroid is being made by a shitty US developer

Bah who cares, Metroid 4 is coming for GBA:) If Metroid Prime sucks at
least Metroid 4 will be there as a real Metroid game...If Metroid
Prime is good, bonus.

Ding dong, John Kitchar's dead. Well maybe not, but he's gone for two months.
Rejoice in the idiot-free environment. Then watch him justify the Port Box's
shitty showing at E3.

Isn't Metroid 4 just a port of SNES Metroid to the GBA though?

Nope. Totally new game that continues the storyline after Super Metroid.
According to Nintendo, the game order is:

Metroid Prime (GameCube)
Metroid (NES)
Metroid II (GB)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Metroid IV (GBA, working title)

That's excellent news, thanks! :-)))

When is it due for release?

Are there any preview screenshots about?

Not for a while. It's *very* early.

www.thegia.com has a write-up/preview on the game, as well.

Or don't. The screens are pretty ghastly :) Who is making Metroid 4 anyway?
The logo has an American flair to it.
