How does it compare to the Zelda games?
How does the fight sequences work?
Can you save games whenever you like?
Is there a good rundown of the storyline anywhere?
I must admit that I'm not a fan of FF3, etc but love the Zelda games - on
this basis, will
Chrono Trigger appeal to me?
Thanks,
Phil

I would say that if you are a Zelda fan, you might like Chrono.

I like it better, but I've also liked Mana, FF3, and FF2 better than
Zelda as well. :)

It isn't full control fighting, as in you don't move your characters
towards the enemy, then press the button to swing your sword. Enemies
will approach (or you approach them), and a menu (a la Final Fantasy)
will pop up in which case you have a typical RPG fight where you dictate
what each character does (i.e. attack, use an item, cast a spell).

Nope, only on save locations, and on the outside world map. (the game
never gets too far w/o allowing you to save it....so don't expect to
have to sit there for 3 hours a la Ogre Battle.. :)

Basically, you assume the role of Chrono, a young boy who is trying to
prevent an event that will take place in 1999, along the way you hop
through time going to the past and future trying to set things right and
making sure 1999 never happens the way it is meant to. VERY involving game.

I would have to say no. I would suggest something more along the lines
of an Illusion of Gaia. Chrono Trigger is definitely an RPG in every
sense of the word.

: Is Chrono Trigger an action RPG in the style of the Zelda games?
No. The viewpoint is similar, but the combat is menu-driven,
like FF3.
: How does it compare to the Zelda games?
IMO it's far more interesting. Graphically, it's similar in
style...
: How does the fight sequences work?
See above.
: Can you save games whenever you like?
No. You can save on any 'outside' map or on special save
points (again like FF3).

I doubt it.
