Does any body know about how Peer Scheinder over at ign64.com says that
the people that claim they hear the sound "pickle" in Mario are lying or
just running there mouth. Well I remember how it started. About eight
months ago, N-query posted a letter with a dude asking Peer about the
sound he was hearing in Mario 64 that sounded like "pickle". He asked
Peer what was the sound saying if it was saying something. Peer said he
didn't know what he was talking about. I, however, did know what he was
talking about. But I thought that he would figure it out sooner or
later. But here we are, almost a full year later, and now Peer claims
that people are just hearing things. Thurday's N-query proves that! But
I know the "pickle" sound is in there. I haven't played Mario in about a
year and I can remember the soud. I always thought it said "take off".
It could easily be mistaken for "pickle". I know Mario as well as I do
myself and I can remember every detail in the game. What I am saying is
that I know excactly when and where the pickle sound comes in. This is
just to show you I'm not lying about the pickle sound being there. Now
it's been a year since I have played Super Mario 64 but I'll try:
1.You know when you first jump into a painting in Mario 64. The white
screen with the stars on it will show up. Sometimes you'll hear that
little three-second-classic-mario-tune. Anyone that has played and beat
Mario has heard it. When you press start and that little glitter sound
comes then fades, you'll hear a little sound (yes I am talking about the
pickle sound). It's not Mario speaking. It's either an anouncer saying
something real fast or it's just a noise. But it's the pickle sound. It
doesn't do it all the time.
I know some one out there has heard it. I want to prove that sorry
little Peer wrong.
Let me play Mario for a little bit then I'll get the specific directions
to get to the sound. Has anyone heard it?

he's saying, 'lets'a go!' in pidgin italian. i swear to god. its not a real
high quality sound and it plays too fast, but it's definately not pickle.

It always sounded like 'pugghtghh' to me, complete nonsense. I expect
you could hear any word you wanted if you tried hard enough.

Surprisingly I think you're right. That "pickle" sound is in Mario 64. I
want to see how long it takes for Peer to figure that out. You're doing
great for a girl.

You're right. I'd even stake my imported copy of F-Zero X on it.
