Metroid 64 is not coming out. Reasons:
1) Metroid games have not been sucesses in Japan
2) The creator of Metroid games died recently in a car crash :-(

It might come out. Reasons:
1) After Japan has a solid install base and consumers over there are happy
2) Gene Roddenberry's work in Star Trek hasn't stopped since his death, so
why should it be the same for great Nintendo series? There will be others to
carry on the Metroid legacy.

Oh my,

How silly can we be?
1) Metroid is too a success in Japan, well outselling the output
here in North America
2) The creator of Metroid, Myamoto, is the man behind Mario, Donkley
Kong, and many others, and is alive and well.

Check your sources...

Perhaps Cody is referring to Metroid's producer, Gumpei Yoki (sp??) He is
credited to creating the gameboy and virtual boy. His name can be found at
the end of metroid, kid icarus, and super marioland 2, among others.

Metroid was in no way successful in Japan. It bombed big time there.

Yeah, it bombed because Nintendo ventured into magnetic storage media and no
one liked it... hope they don't make the same mistake on the N64.

Actually, everyone liked it so much they pirated the famidisks
rampantly throughout Japan, and Nintendo pulled the drives right off
store shelves. If you think the media was what blew Metroid in Japan,
think again: the pack in game with the first Famidisk drives was none
other than Legend of Zelda.

Mike, what you are saying is quite off. If it was so popular, as you say,
then they would make the sequals for it more than they do.

Nintendo and their in-house Japanese programmers only have so many
resources. Is it just me or do they have this Mario-Zelda-Metroid
rotation thing going on? Except for Game Boy, where the Metroid sequel
came first.

That suggests to me, as far as Nintendo's proficiency with sequels is
concerned, a decent degree of popularity.

But yes, according to Nintendo Power in an article on the making of Super
Metroid, the series never really did that well in Japan. I don't know
how Super Metroid did, however...

Peace to you...

Although we at DMA design were asked by Nintendo to think about changing
BODY HARVEST into Metroid 64.....hmmmm maybe they are thinking about it
after all...
