Neither. When he enters the painting, he says "ecco" (don't know if it's
actually spelt that way), which is a word in Italian, and when he throws
Bowser, I think he says "So long, dear Bowser!". At least that was what
it sounded like. I'm pretty sure about the painting thing, though.

It's "Let's a go" in Mario's really bad Italian accent. Ecco IS an
Italian word for "here" as in "Ecco qua" or "here you go", "here's your

I still think it's "So long LE Bowser". "Le" is a pronoun in French, which
means "the"... Perhaps it's the same in Italian, since Italian is a Latin

Ah, now that THAT'S over with, I'm pretty sure you're both wrong.
Listen to the split of the sentence: "So Long <pause> ??? Bowser!"
I can hear "So Long, Dear Bowser" Quite clearly. Perhaps you need to
turn the Stereo up or get better speakers? Anyway, I can distinctly
hear the D, and everyone agrees with the syllable (ea, ee), so the only
thing missing is the 'r' in "dear," but the accent accounts for that.
It actually sounds like "So long, deah Bowser!"

Nintendo would be about as likely to have mario say "so long, gay Bowser"

I think you're confusing two sounds. The `Mexico' sound is the sound Mario
makes when (for instance) you get a star.

I believe you're referring to the `nit pickle' sound he makes when you
start a level. I still haven't figured that one out. I suspect it's
something like `get ready', but then again it may just BE `nit pickle'.

Okay people, find a quiet place, get a good sound system and some good
earphones, turn the volume to a medium setting and listen. All sounds
are quite clear. Mario says "Here we go!" When he gets a star or
wing cap, "Lets-a go!" when starting a level, and when he throws
bowser, he says "So long, dear Bowser!" It's all very clear.

"Select player" "Battle" "Congratulations!" "Hey a, you a really good! See
you next time."

I don't personally own M64 but I think Mario might say to Bowser "So
longsy, Bowsy!" I can only judge from my demo tape they gave to Nintendo
Power subscribers, tho.

Umm... Pardon me, but, If he's speaking french, how come it sounds like
english?
And if he's not, why does it sound like french?

I'm pretty sure he's saying "So long, King Bowser!" and "Here we go!"

Exactly. My vote for "Let's a-go!" And I say it's "So long, King Bowser!"
Remember, he's Italian.

He's saying, in a poor, stereotypical Italian accent "Let's a'go" (Let's
go with an 'a' before the go). Simple really.

So, after blowing up the Death Star and returning to the Rebel moon in
the first Star Wars movie, does Mark Hamill yell "Carrie!!" or does he
yell "Hey!"?

I've always thought it was the latter.
